Apparently pellets can be used for reforming. I'll be looking into these a little more.

pellet core cutter is probably 125 bucks
how much for the wire for a 177 and 22

another forum said the 177. 16 grains were accurate in some guns

what is the total investment for dies, wire and cutter

Then see what amount of tins could be bought for the same price less 50 % resale on the equipment

thoughts

looking for a break even point especially if the ammo you personally make does not shoot as well as factory stuff

I did some quick math on using 25gr JSB pellets to reform to 23gr slugs. If you use H&H 23gr slugs as a reference point there is $.03 per pellet/slug difference. The dies are $240.00 USD delivered. By reforming the pellets the break even point would be around 10,000 slugs made. If you find a cheaper source of lead, obviously the break even point goes down. I've been emailing the guy who makes these back and forth today.

instead of reforming why would you not just buy lead wire and a cutter?
just asking as I don’t know

That is where you save money. I did the math with reforming pellets as a worst case scenario/ease of use. I'm sure there are cheaper pellets available that could be used. The dies can also be made in custom configurations which is a plus for some people. They will be having a 2 stage die that makes a hollow point that looks similar to the FX ammo.

I will be sourcing out wire and a cutter some time in the next month or two. I want to try some H&N slugs in the polygonal barrel before I even think of getting dies. If the JBS slugs coming out are a reasonable price and shoot well I will probably just go with them. Currently the 25gr redesigned heavies are about $0.06 per pellet I think.

Corbin USA has core cutters for 70 USA plus shipping

wire is 50 bucks for 50 pounds I think but shipping is a killer

let us know where you source lead wire at in Alberta. ha-ha

R U doing a 22

if you do 177 caliber and 16 grains I would buy 500 or so from you. maybe 1000 depending on price

the Corbin dies are 318 USA. LSWCIS
CSL-2S swage lube is 35

Lw10 wire 50 bucks

CSP-1 S press 750

expensive but done right

give you sum pin to do during viruses

Maybe you should get on that and let us know how it goes.

Someone posted a couple videos of Russians/Eastern Europeans making their own heavy shot for shotgun loading.

The one guy's lead wire making jig was shown in some detail, he used a simple hydraulic press and a really simple extrusion die set-up.

I looked pretty hard at swaging dies for making jacketed bullets, including buying a set of .22 Rimfire casing to .224 jacketed bullet dies made by Corbin.

If you want to do it as a hobby, it pretty much does not matter the cost, but mostly, if you don't have the basic metalworking abilities to make the stuff it only looks like a good idea if you really cannot get a reasonable source for the ammo you are making.

Swaging soft lead slugs is a cakewalk for a decent built loading press. Even many caliblers of jacketed bullets can be made on them, and at least one of the swaging dies makers also does conversions on RCBS Rock Chucker presses.
