Swapping in a 18.5 inch barrel for a Mossberg

I have an old Lakefield Mossberg 400G that I would like to put an 18.5 inch barrel on. Has anybody done this? Is this possible and/or feasible and if so, where can I find one in Canada.

A quick Internet search has told me that the 400G is supposed to be the same as the 500 and the parts are interchangeable.

To be honest, buying a new barrel alone might cost nearly as much as buying a Mossberg Maverick Security (selling for <$300 now and much lower if you can find used) which uses the same 500 barrel. I bought longer barrel that has chokes and it cost me around $200+ after tax and shipping. I could have bought the combo package which costs twice as much but came with another gun + 2 barrels.

Yeah, that's I was thinking. I saw the 18.5 for $99 in the Us, but I doubt I'll find that here.
