Swapping No4mk1 bolt head ejectors

Hey all,

Just swapped in the required #3 bolt head, and used the Ejector Claw, spring, and screw from the #0 bolt head. However, now the rifle no longer ejects spent brass. I have swapped around parts from 2 different bolt bodies, and 2 #0 heads, and the only combination of parts that doesnt work involves the #3 head. Does anyone have any suggestions?
 
Are you saying it doesn't extract the case, or extracts but doesn't eject?

Things to check:
- is the bolt head fully turned into the bolt body?
- when fully screwed in, does it force the cocking piece back 1/64th to 1/16th inch?
 
Sorry, I should have been clearer. The bolt extracted the spend casing, but doesnt shoot it out the side. If I pulled back on the bolt REALLY fast, it might drop the brass, and it just sits there, but it doesnt eject that brass out of the chamber. However, the other two bolt heads and extracter claws/spring combos do.

Is there any chance that in going from a #0 bolt to a #3 bolt, and not changing the claw the brass is being held in too tight?

Sounds like it might be a spring problem. The spring pushes the extractor against the side of the cartridge case, and when the bolt is brought back, the cartridge case is pushed up against the left inside wall. It is then held there by the spring tension, and when the bolt comes all the way back, the case head comes into contact with a small screw that projects into the left side of the action. When it hits this screw, it is kicked out to the right.

Are you sure you have the extractor spring assembled right? It is very easy to assemble wrong, and if you are not really familiar with how to do it, then it will not seat properly and not put enough tension on the extractor.

No, thats just my issue. Ive now reassembled, and assembled the each bolt head at least once. Tried every combination of my two springs, two claws, and three heads. #0 heads always work, #3 wont. Thats why Im confused. Its as if the spring is hold it too tight, maybe because the room between the bolt head and claw is less?
 
Yes - I suspect that the clearance between the extractor and the bolt face is less, causing the rim to be gripped more tightly. You should be able to feel the difference.
