I am in the hunt for a new swarovski spottin scope. I would love some feed back from members on the swaroski 85ATM or STM HD compared to the none HD model.

Its to bad not one person on this forum has had any experience with these spotting scopes. Any feed back would be really appreciated

I have a non-HD, ATM 60. I had the chance to look through many of the latest models of HD, and my eye is not good enough to be able to tell the difference between the two of them. There may be those times, especially for very close up work for bird watching etc when the HD lenses may be better, but for me just using them on the range and in the mountains occasionally, i couldn't see the advantage.
 
For another $1000 the 80 HD is a little bit clearer. I've looked through them both side by side, and the only time you really notice it is 9 at night when its starting to get dark. But 80 is a heavy glass, if you're going to be carrying it any distance I'd be tempted to look at a 65 HD instead.

If you go in to wholesale sports they'll let you take em outside and look through them both for comparison. Its hard to buy optics without using your eyes
 
Buy the best you can afford, I know of no-one who has regretted doing just that when it comes to glass. The non-hd is fine, you can look through it all day, the hd is a bit clearer, I use an S&B spotting scope and its good enough for me, not quite as crystal clear as the new Swaro HD, but plenty clear enough.
 
I have a 20-60X80 HD Swaroski. I had a couple of other and was never satisfied with the clairity. When I looked thru the Swaroski, could not believe the clairity and brightness. It is well worth the money. I happened to pick mine up on the Optics exchange for a substancial savings......Ken

I am really leaning toward the 80HD. I would like to use it in conjunction with the camera adapter and use my digital slr for taking pictures of mountain goats. This kind of why I was leaning toward the HD model. If possible could you PM what you paid.

I agree with p53 . My thoughts exactly. I am very happy with my ats 65 in non hd. Glassed lots of sheep and goats and it works awesome.
 
Well Guys I would like to say thanks for the input. I pulled the trigger today and order a new spotting scope. My final decision was 20-60 eye piece on an 80mm ATM body non HD model. Price was 1800.99 for the body , 570.99 for the eye piece , and 399.00 for the universal camera adpter. I bought it out of Alberta at Magnumgun Outfitters. They were the best price with exceptional service. I would recomend checking them out on the net. Anyhow thanks for all the input
