Sweaty hands and a Glock

Where can I get such rubber grip tape? Canadian tire or more of a Specialty store?

I have the skateboard type stuff on my glock now, and it does an okay job. I
Made one for the back strap but that just kinda
Slid along my pistol. Probably a combination of crappy glue and sweat.

Pretty sure you can find the 3m tape or a similar product at most hardware/home improvement stores. I find that small patches of skateboard tape don't work very well on polymer grips, I tend to wrap the entire grip surface and then it stays put.

I'm with Trigun on this one. I was out training today and it started raining which can make for an even more slippery situation than sweaty hands. The bottom line is that a good pair of gloves will mitigate, if not entirely remove as a shooting variable, inconsistent grip due to wet hands and/or gun.

I'm also not a big fan of putting grip tape or textured slip-ons on my Glock just because it looks ghetto in my opinion.

I agree.

Thanks for the tips as suggestions from everyone! I appreciate you passing on your knowledge and experience. I'm not a huge fan inthe stippling, and that's more permanent than I'm looking for. also I LOVE using gloves for big dexterity things like rifle shooting and handling, but find them alittle cumbersome. Altho if there was a pair of gloves that were as thin and tight fitting as latex gloves, I'm sure they would be perfect.

I picked it up at the Canadian Tire on Cambie, and it took me months of searching to find. One day they suddenly had it in stock. It is also available on Amazon and I think that will be your best bet.

As for gloves, have you tried the Mechanix line? They are cheap and offer great dexterity, just buy one size smaller and work them in.

We both agree that cosmetic looks have nothing to do with the function of the gun but I disagree with you saying that gear does not solve problems. The OP has sweaty hands which makes it difficult to maintain a good firm consistent grip. I ran into a similar problem while out shooting my Glock in rain. While I did not have any significant problems with my primary hand on the wet frame itself, I noticed my support hand slipping from my primary hand with each consecutive shot due to excessive moisture. Grip tape or a rubber sleeve may prevent or lessen hand slippage on the pistol itself but I can't imagine them doing a whole lot in stopping your support hand from your primary hand. Gloves on the other hand can minimize hand-on-hand slippage as well as hand-on-gun slippage.

The OP may not have problems with hand-on-hand slippages but someone else may and to discount the idea of wearing gloves as a solution to this or a similar problem seems foolish.

perhaps my post was misunderstood. I'm not saying gloves are a gimmick. I'm saying that accessories selected because they "look cool" are a gimmick and are usually not the most prudent solution to the problem. Looks should never play into gear selection when attempting to solve a problem. If it does, you're doing it wrong.

As for gloves. They can work, but they're not always available and not everyone can adjust to wearing them. Same can be said for other "fixes" as well. Gloves generally wear out quicker and cost more than some other solutions. Some things to think about.

Your right.
It all is based on what suits you the best. You don't want to garbage up your gun for the sake of making it work right, either. Happy balance is best. Alot of the people here aren't combat soldiers or coppers, so prettier is good too. There is a happy medium, somewhere. My work gun is not as pretty as my personal ones, for sure. I like not picking up my guns to show a friend and them having to try coming up with a compliment for a taped up piece of crap that I know looks like poop. Lol!

Just for the record, I have seen some of the pics that have the pistol specific grip tape and they look pretty cool.

Personal preference plays in when it comes to looks and very rarely plays a role when discussing performance. Personally, I don't care what my guns look like. I'm concerned about how they perform.

I get that. That's cool.
I only care about the looks of my guns that aren't used to save my life or the life of another. They have to perform good, but not at the expense of making the. Look stupid either. We spend alot of money on these awsome things. Ifna gun doesn't perform the right way, ditch it, cut your losses and move on. My duty guns are clean and we'll maintained, but do I have all kinds of wacky stuff on it to make it work better, no. But nothing on those make it look pretty. But they perform really well.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, if you invest all that money into a gun, you shouldn't have to put all kinds of crap on it.

Quality guns should function from the box with nothing but ammo added. If you need to add crap to make it run, its a lemon.;)

You were out in the rain?!? That is dedication. Lol! I thought I was the only diehard. Lol!
Totally agree on all your points by the way.

Haha yeah, my buddy was running a 'Pistol Fundamentals' shoot and it was a rain or shine kind of thing. It's also nice to your weapons systems and kit in "adverse" conditions to help see what works and what doesn't and other things you should look out for (for example, I've never experienced my hands being wet enough that my support was slipping from my primary).

Gotcha. I suppose our exchanges could have been avoided if I hadn't dropped the "ghetto looks" comment haha.

Update us on how the rubber grip tape works for you when you're able to run your gun with the stuff on.

We have had "In Service Training" outside in the rain before. I can tell you right now that sometimes the cry babies quit before the equipment does. Lol!

Been running a G17 gen 4 for a couple years without one issue. Very accurate for a combat pistol. I use the small grip with a hogue Handall sleave and it works good at keeping your hand in place even when a bit sweaty. You do need to check the hogue as they can shift position very slightly. Over a period of time (weeks) the sleave will turn or shift up or down, not a huge concern on a range. Also use one at work on a different pistol, I just make sure to check it at the beginning of a shift to make sure it is not starting to move. Been using hogue for years on all my pistols. The hogues which are made for specific pistols and fasten in place with screws are better by far but the slip ons are worth the time checking they have not shifted IMHO.

If your subject to the sweaty palms thing, the Hogue don't last very long at all. If their was a screwdown version for the Glocks, it would be perfect. Or even something that could be connected to one of those Glock plugs, might be a good patent idea.

Agreed, on a work gun the hogue will have to be replaced yearly as they seem to get looser over time. They also get torn up catching your pistol on cars or doorways and need attention or replacement. On my glock this has not been an issue as it just goes to the range. Wish there was a better way to fasten on a glock but unlikely this will change. Slip on sleeves are cheap have done the job for me. Sweat bothers me more with a pump shotgun, has yet to be a major problem on my pistols. Pro's and con's to all methods just need to find whats right for the individual. I don't think I would like tape, but have never tried it. Good to hear what works for different shooters in different situations. I also like the tried and true wipe your hands on your pants. .......... continue shooting

What section was the tape in? They done have in on their online system and the staff there aren't as helpful as I'd like. If you see it again locally fire me a PM!

Acklands doesnt have any of that... I found a A Grip on Brownells for $30US... ill give that a try!
