Good evening.:)

I have a rifle that I'd like some info on. Near as I can tell from browsing the net it appears to be a Husky M38.

This my first go at this rifle, and while it looks nice I haven't been able to find a picture of the same rifle with the small metal tab sticking out from the butt plate.

Does that look normal?

Anything else look out of place on this rifle? On thing I noticed is the screw on the rear sight is broken.

Is this screw hard to get?

Also, is the floorplate on the magazine supposed to open when you push up on the little recessed button on it? I didn't want to force it.

The bore looks good and other than the screw I see no major damage on this rifle. I haven't tried to disasseble it. It is NOT a numbers matching speciman. Can you give me some idea of current value? Searching the net gave me a pretty wide range, I'd like something realistic.

Thanks.

Well I can't help with the metal tab sticking out from under the buttplate. I've never seen that before. Not too sure on the screw on the rear sight either. I don't remember anything like that on the ones I used to own.

The floor plate though should come off when you depress the recessed catch while pushing straight back on the floor plate. Sometimes the floor plates are stiff to slide back thought.

Looks like someone built a trapdoor in the butt. Pull on the tab and see if a gate slides out. Something like this.

Someone may have relaced the "bubba'd" butt plate and sealed in who knows what treasures.
That button to release the floorplate can take a pretty good push, and the floorplate can take a good tug.

Thanks guys. The floorplate did open once I knew what I was doing. And yes, the tab was for a sliding gate behind the buttplate. No treasures behind though.

Do we have enough info to get an approximate fair price for it? Milsurps are not my cup of tea and I would like this rifle to go to a good home.

Thanks.

M/38 Husqvarna made Swedes run from $250 for a Shooter to $400 for an good Collector's rifle. Since this rifle does not have matching numbers, and has been modified with the sliding plate on the butt stock, the value would run toward the lower end of that scale.

The M38's are pretty much all excellent shooters. Very accurate, mild recoil, simple and strong actions. Keep it and shoot it......lots....

I recently picked up a Husqvarna M38. Awesome rifles. I concur, these are currently undervalued for the quality, workmanship and precision of the firearm. These are some of the finest Mausers made. I have a M96 Swede as well (29.1" barrel). Both are ridiculously accurate. That is the first tab I see sticking out on the buttplate like that. The stock appears refinished. I have the same rear sight on my Huskie as well, minus the broken screw. These are the old sights for the old round m/94. The rifles had a tacked on metal plate on the right side of the butt, oriented upside down when looking at it from the side for ballistic correction for the m/41 round. You can get rear sight inserts used by the Swedish CMP and install taller front sights if needed. Good luck.
