Im looking to have a 6.5 built up and was wondering what the best barrel lenght would be in order to get the most out of the cartidge. Thanks

depends on what the rifle is for...

a 36" barrel will shoot faster than a 22" barrel......but it may not be the best choice for a hunting rifle

22" - 24" depending on the area you will be hunting. Going shorter would be a personal peference.

The shorter you go, the greater the velocity loss. Going longer would not show any great gains in velocity.

Started at 24" and worked down for accuracy on one of mine. Settled on 22 1/2" - tightened right up for some reason, don't know why but it's a lot handier in the truck now.

Now that would be an interesting experiement to repeat a couple more times in different rifles!

changing the length of the barrel changed the vibration pattern....same as the BOSS system...helluva way to tune a load though.

To get the most out of the cartridge go 28-30"

If weight is an issue, (Obviously it is...) then decide how much weight you can live with and chop from there. If you go with a Chromoly barrel, you can still have a fairly long barrel and keep it still keep it light.

20-24" will still give you plenty of velocity and still leave you with a cartridge capable of killing any North American game.

I shoot a 1944 Husky Swede with a 25" barrel and I love it. As was noted in this thread a few times though, it depends on what you are comfortable with.

Given the many different bullet and powder options that work for this round, if you intend to handload you can get pretty well whatever you want out of any barrel length from 22" up.
