Swede'ish defection

I've always been interested in the 6.5 Swede, but could never seem to find a good used modern version within my budget.

So when a super mint, really low rnd count Rem 700 Classic became avail I jumped on it. Ironically a member who I've done a few ftf deals with on here was trading it in at a local shop (right place at the right time). It was in and out of that store within 5 mins. Certainly didn't need another middle-weight with a .243 in the stable, but you know, want sometimes out-weighs need...

So my question/s are where to begin?
130gr pills as a do-all load?
NOS Partitions, Accubonds or Barnes TSX?

(Mind the Tasco fixed 4-32 it'll be replaced/sold)

My HVA really likes the 129gr LR Accubonds, but shoots everything from 100-140gr really well too. Great all around cartridge.

I load 47gr of RE#22 and a 140gr Partition for everything. Same load with A 130gr Scirocco makes one ragged hole........Win brass ....fed mag primer.......in a T3.........Harold

Try the 140 grain Hornady spire point over 44 grains of IMR4350 for a do all load. I can not tell you how many deer I have taken with that load but it is a big pile. It has always been the best load for my rifle.

What a nice find! Great calibre. As other have said, 129-140 grain pills seem to work well. I'm partial to Nosler Partitions.

I wish I could find a use for anything smaller than 7MM and larger than .22 CF or RF. I would make room in the safe or get another one in a flash.

I use this same 140 gr load in a Husqvarna 1600, has proven very accurate. WK

I'm seeing a few different opinions on this. 1:8 direct from an inquiry to Remington on an older thread i dug up on google

"I posed this question at the Remington Firearms (corporate) site and got a reply. It seems that the Classic 91994) 6.5x55 has a 1:8 rate of twist. That should be fast enough to stablize any bullet I will want to load for it."


Most responses are 1:9 when asked based on a 260 Rem in the same model.

Sounds like a 3-9 or 4-12 would fit the bill for hunting and some longer shots on paper. Leupold or Nikon.

My 700 Classic in 6.5x55 wears a Leupold 6x42. Very nice, clear and bright optics for any shot inside of 500 yards. Dave.

Very interesting caliber. From what I've read, 7.5 or 8 seems to be the standard twist rate for this round. Not likely something you have to fret too much, if at all.

I'd be sticking to the 129 to 140 gr. range with premium quality bullets, bonded or monos, should make for a fantastic deer caliber...but not to forget that most Scandanavian moose are taken with this puppy, too.

Pop a Bushnell Elite 4500 2.5-10x40 on it...the glass will amaze you, I promise...and you're good to go for just about anything! Some super good deals on this scope right now!
