Hi Guys,

Just woondering if anyone has any exprience with these. They look like good quality rifles and as we all know, Swedish milsurps are tradictionally accurate. There is a variey of different diopter sights available, which is best? Thinking of getting one, but I dont know much about them.

Thanks

The CG63's are great rifles. I have one with the elite globe sights, and it seems to work well. I hear the anschutz inserts work with the front sight, but I still have the original installed. Here is a picture of a group I shot at 100 yards this past summer. I find the green targets easier to see in the globes than the black.

Used to shoot them quite a bit. They are very nice rifles. I like the Pramm and Elite rear sights the best.

Okay - is this the place that I can get some advice on accurate loads for the CG63 - Carl G barrel? I have 140 grain Hornadys for it but the rifling is so far away as to be untouchable. Nothing that I have tried works well.

I bought my CG 63 from a CGN member who had it dialed in for long distance shooting. I started out shooting 140 grain bullets, but was told 120gr AMAX hornadys work better. That made a big difference. I powder them up with 37 grain of IMR4064.

I can't remember my load (i'm overseas right now) but my CG63 sights work perfectly with my load. If I want to hit a target at say 550 meters, I dial in 550 and POI is dead center. 175, same thing and so on. It's a lot of fun when shooting silhouettes at varying distances. If you want I can send you my load details when I get home.
There are two elevation dials for the GF diopter that I have. One is yellow and one is white. They are calibrated to a certain velocity with a 143g bullet. The white at 780 m/s. The yellow at 800 m/s. This is what my research has shown me but if anyone can prove otherwise please step in. I'm all ears.
I'm actually using 140g Berger VLD's and shot over a chronograph until I saw the velocity I wanted. I got lucky I feel because once I re-indexed the dial to my 100 yard zero everything just fell into place. The accuracy is outstanding so long as I can hold a consistent POA. The basic Sierra 140g spire point bullets have been accurate as well (and much cheaper!) but the elevation calibration is off slightly.
I doubt anyone is able to load the bullets to touch the rifling. The throats are really long! That is one of the reasons I went with a VLD bullet as they are really long too and gets me closer to the lands which typically is more accurate but not always.
One more thing. The only problem I have found with re-indexing the elevation dial to my zero I'm limited to shooting targets just shy of 700 m. My dial is only marked to 600m but bottoms out just past it. That is not usually a problem as I don't shoot beyond 500m very often but it would be nice to have the sight adjustment available as the 6.5x55 is a great long range cartridge.
Don't hesitate. Buy one! You'll love it. Trade Ex Canada is a good source though their prices are just a little high IMO.
