Hello All!

Well, after many MANY hours of convincing a friend not to bubba what I BELIEVE to be an M94/14 Karbine, I have finally managed to strike a deal to aquire it! The rifle has already been sportered sadly, BUT! Good news! The barrel is intact, as is the front sight, though the front sight ears and the top/bottom forestock wood is missing. This will be my first restoration project, so I will need boatloads of help from you experienced folks! I don't have the rifle yet, but I am prepping for it so I can hit the ground running. Maybe I don't have one? I really do think I do though! Pictures will be up soon!

Some Details:

On the Reciever, there is written Carl Gustafs Stads Gevarsfaktori 1898
On the side is written the serial **45, this matches the bolt, the magazine bottom plate and anywhere else I looked. The stock has the leather and brass tack "flap" and a brass disk that looks like it was scrubbed clean. The front of the muzzle looks really weird, with the tip of the barrel protruding from the rest of the barrel, I understand this is where the nosecap was put on, or done as an importation thing to the USA?

Oh, boy! Here we go again!

Congrats on the find, Drachenblut! Don't think I can help a lot on this one, never having owned one of the little brutes. The smaller diameter of the muzzle, I would assume, should fit into the nose-cap with which these were fitted. They really looked nice before Bubba got hold of them.

Thing I find of great interest is the DATE of the critter and the very low serial. This is the earliest Carl Gustaf Mauser I have heard of personally. I DO have a pair of the Model 1896 Rifles, both 1899, one by Mauser Oberndorf and the other by Carl Gustaf, both with stamps from the same inspector. From this, I got the idea that staff training and equipment manufacture/supply still were ongoing at the Mauser plant in 1899 and that production switched partway through the year. Evidently I was mistaken and your little rifle is the proof.

Can anyone shed any light on this ignorance of mine?

Does anyone have anything Mauser from Carl Gustaf dated BEFORE this one???

I had a look at a couple web pages devoted to the Swedish Mausers, and I found that there is registered on a list of M-94's, an 1898 M-94 Serial number 1510 which is VERY close to mine! Here is a link of that survey list h ttp://dutchman.rebooty.com/94swede.html (I hope this is ok to link to?) The earliest SN on that list for 1898 is 174, a rare find indeed! Mine is quite low too. Well, I will see what can be done to restore it!

Hello Badger. I am quite jealous already! I looked through all of your pictures. How much did that baby cost you? By the way, would you mind helping me secure wood, nosecap and rear band if you can?
 
FWIW, I have an original etched and painted brass ranging plate for the M94 along with the proper 4 brass tack nails for it in my parts bin. If you manage to find a stock missing the plate, let me know and maybe we can work something out :)
 
I definitely want to restore this rifle, regardless of cost. I know the length of the barrel is normal, but I am missing the "barleycorn" sight ears, nose cap, and forewood. When it comes in tomorrow or Tuesday, I will post pictures here, and help is really really asked from you experts!
