Swedish M96 Sporter in 6.5x55???

I have a '96 and finally had the time to mount a scope and load for it!!!

Mine will shoot 140 SMK's at 2700 fps and all day into 3/4".

Make a few guys turn their heads at the range when it outshoots their expensive factory rifles!!!!

Make sure it has a #1 barrel and you will be very pleased!!!

M38

I will weigh in with another "go for it". Love my M38 from a cgnner. Great time dealing with trade-ex for parts and accessories. They have a great selection of rifles chambered for 6.5x55.
Oh yeah: sold a Sako 75 in .270 Win to buy the Swede. No regrets at all.

The 6.5x55 is very modern looking cartridge.Think ###y swede. CIP Max pressure is around 55,000,so they are not that slow. Hits like a 270,is as flat shooting as a 30-06 and kicks like a 243.

I sold my "sportered" M38 in 6.5 to a fellow CGN'r. It had an aftermarket trigger, aftermarket safety, had been d&t'd, had a modified bolt handle to allow for scope mounting, barrel recrowned at 22", and was set in an inexpensive composite stock. It shot very well and I loved the cartridge, but decided to go with a new T3 light in the same. If you get a lot of pleasure out of doing the mods (or having them done by someone else), starting with a military is a great idea. If you just want a hunting rifle in 6.5, you're likely better off purchasing a new or used non-military...Tikka, Sako, Ruger, CZ,...and there are others out there. Another possibility would be the re-barrel of a commercial action, but that can become a pretty pricey custom project.

Sounds like the twin to one of mine. :)

One thing I have noticed about these is check that the bolt handle clears the eye piece on the scope, even bent, they sometimes still touch.

Sporter Swedes....

Here's an econo sporter Swede I had a couple years back..... likely should've kept it.... bought & sold on the EE here....
