So i have a swedish mauser m96 the gun was originaly zero'd for 300m (this is the lowest setting on the rear sight) and works up 400m,500m, etc.. i recently changed the front sight to a higher post to bring the rifle to 0 at 100m (with the original shorter front post it was shooting about 12" high at 100m).

my question is: if the 300m mark on the rear sight is now 0 at 100m what does that do to the 400m mark?

could i just shoot it at 100m and see how much the bullets clime on paper ever time i increase the rear sight and compare it too a ballistic chart for bullet drop?

whats the best way to figure out the other graduations on the rear sight?

Shoot at 100, and note how many inches each notch raises the group. These are also minutes of elevation, too.

Then run the Hornady ballistic program for your ammo, and see how much increase is required at each distance.

if you are shooting iron sights, I doubt you are interested in much else than 100 and 200 (maybe 300). The 400 yard setting would be around 250 yards, my guess.

sounds like a pretty solid idea. I'm mostly interested in the 400m and 500m notch
