Swedish Mauser Safety

Has anyone changed the safety on a Swedish M38 carbine to allow for scope mounting? I have seen a few options and was wondering what would be the best "drop in" part. I dont mind having to do minor fitting, but I would rather not have to send it to a Smith, as it is a project...
Thanks for your time.
Cheers!

I have a Timney "Buehler-style low safety" installed on my sportered M38. They make one for large ring, and one for the small ring. The small ring one (M96) is what you need. The installation was accomplished with considerable help from a friend who knew what he was doing. They do come with instructions though, and if you know your way around the Mauser action, you may be able to do the job on your own. I selected mine from a Brownells catalog, but ended up ordering it from "gunparts" (?)...Edmonton I believe.

I have one done with the Buehler safety and 2 are getting done with the Bold trgger with safety. The Bold looks like it will be easier as you simply replace the trigger group and do some minor fitting. I will let you know when they get here.

My set up is with the Timney trigger, with sliding safety.

The original safety is unaltered; just flipped all the way over to 'fire' and the trigger safety does the rest.

I have the Buehler style installed on my two "96's. They work great and I found them easy to install.I also put on Timney sportsman adjustable triggers. I have a spare "Buehler" that I have never installed on a rifle, if you are interested....Ken

I have used Dayton Traister x2, and I have a 2 position Win 70 side safety in the parts bin that has yet to have a bolt shroud machined to fit.
