Hi everyone, anyone use a B Square scout scope mount on their Swede M38 or 96? I am trying to decide between the scout scope setup or a peep sight. anyone know of a peep style sight that does not require drilling or tapping?
thanks

I'd shy away from the B-Square mount - it only fixes in one point, the site pivot. S+K also make a scout style mount - they make a decent product - but I have no specific experience with their 96 offering.

I have been quite pleased by the B Square mount - we put one on my daughters M38 Swede and have had no issues with it (we even got a deer with it this fall).

Mount is sturdy, we had no shift in point of impact while sighting it in the early fall or over the hunting season. I would recommend one (I bought mine from a CGN member)

Hi guys thanks for the info. Nice looking gun Chas, how is the scope height with the Bsquare? still able to get a good cheek weld? Hi John Sukey, "ah yes, the Scout rifle, A SOLUTION IN SEARCH OF A PROBLEM", i am not trying to make this a "scout" gun, i just want to try scoping this gun and don't want to bubba it by drilling and tapping it as the gun is all matching and in mint shape. i do like the scout setup for offhand and moving targets though, got a scout setup on my garand and it works great.

You have to make sure you ask the S&K people clearly about the intrusiveness of their mounts. For example, although they say "no drilling and tapping required", their Krag 98 mount actually requires you to cut gouges in the wood to get it to fit. Their advertising can be misleading, depending upon which rifle you're trying to scope.

Other then that, they do make reasonably good products.

We've changed the rings since the picture and the scope is lower to the bore - better sighting for sure.

Like you, didnt want to drill and tap, and didnt want my 12 year old daughter getting scope eye. I used it to kill our spike buck this fall and it worked well (I couldnt see the antlers and she handed me the rifle just as it started to run). Makes it a lot easier to keep both eyes open for a young shooter as well.

I am quite happy with the set up, and more important, so is she.
