6,5 mm Gevär m/96B (G m/96B)
‘’B’’ prefix was applied by Swedish military to all rifles with barrels threaded at the muzzle for blank firing device.
Made by Carl Gustafs stads gevärsfaktori (GF)
SN# 429874
1917
Year of delivery 1898-1925 for m/96.
Quantity: (GF) 517,260 Rifles (1898-1925).
Inspector: ‘’HK’’ Helge G.L. Kolthoff – April 1, 1912 to Feb. 28, 1923
6,5×55mm Swedish (6,5 mm patron m/94/41 or 6,5 mm ptr m/94/41)
5 rd. Double stack Integral Box Magazine (Non-Removable).
Bolt action (Cocking on close)
Design by Peter Paul von Mauser (From Model 1893).

Threaded Barrel End – (Not all were threaded). The threads, of course, are for the blank-firing adapters which shredded the wooded bullets in training rounds. The thread was NOT for a flash hider, muzzle brake, grenade launcher, or tea kettle :) - regardless of what imaginative sellers and dealers say. The thread was ONLY for the attachment of a blank-firing adapter, as already stated.

The original disc no longer provides any reliable indication of the barrel's condition. On the one hand, the inspection may have been half a century ago, and no one knows how the rifle has been treated since; on the other hand, these discs have been swapped with other rifles and copied repeatedly, rendering them completely useless. Similar action to K m/94 and G m/38, but with a straight bolt handle.

1916
Year of delivery 1898-1925 for m/96.
Quantity: (GF) 517,260 m/96 Rifles (1898-1925).
Some 30,000 m/96 rifles were rebarreled at (GF) beginning in 1938.

Some 30,000 m/96 rifles were rebarreled at Carl Gustafs stads gevärsfaktori (GF) beginning in 1938 with 584,2 mm barrel to make the rifle handier for the foot soldier. The shorter barrel and the adoption of the new m/94/41 cartridge with 139 grain spitzer bullet required that the rifle be equipped with a new rear sight. m/96-38 Rear Sight (Type 1 ‘’Vasteras Metallverkin Refined Sight Adapter’’) Manufactured by Metallverken Västerls (SV. PAT. 90944). Stock Disk Type 2 (Zinc) and the wood under the stock disk is painted red and red paint (or red wax) found on the wood under a Swedish Mauser stock disk generally indicates that the rifle was deemed unserviceable or condemned during a military inspection.

Meaning: When a rifle was marked as having a poor bore condition (typically a "3" or worse, indicating heavy pitting or wear), it was deemed unserviceable for front-line duty, and the disk was sometimes removed, with red paint or wax applied to the wood.

Significance: Swedish military standards for bore condition were exceptionally high, meaning a rifle marked as "unserviceable" by their inspectors may still be a perfectly functional—and often accurate—shooter today. The red marking was likely used to quickly identify these rifles during inventory checks to ensure they were not used in service conditions.
