Sweet new Toy $2500+ Rimfire

20x is pretty low for benchrest work. I've got a 24x right now and find myself wishing for more. I'd say you'll be much happier with something in the range of that Weaver. After all, benchrest is about squeezing as much accuracy as you possibly can. And that's hard to do if you don't have enough magnification to make sure you're as finely aimed as possible.

go with a weaver 36x

will be in selkirk for cnaadian br match at end of june

cooper is nice, do not think they are second class. the trp3 is a nice br rig and I have over 20 rimfire Br guns , full blown most with 3 inch forends.

cooper will be just fine

I think I will buy the Weaver 36X, should I get the target dot or the fine plex reticle. Mostly shooting 50 and 100 yards off the bench

I'd go with the fine reticle, as I think even the smallest dot is going to obscure more of the target than the fine reticle would. Personal preference, I suppose.

36x

dot or xhair, can you look through either.

I just use them for centerfire, not got any mounted on rimfire yet (20 guns and not one shot yet)

how are your eyes, the xhairs seem to wash out sometimes as we age (bifocal glasses yet, or can you still use iron sights well)

my preference is the dot on centerfire, it hides on the mothball well.

the xhairs seem to be a little more exact on the target , but but but

they can wash out in the sunlight.

to answer your question, you would need to look on a rimfire br target to see what the dot covered and how you approached the shooting on the target.

where do you hold, center of mass, on the 6 oclock or 9 oclock on the mothball.

where does your group form above below or exact point of aim.,

mostly score shooting then either

group shooting maybe a dot depending on the type of group shot

sorry to be confusing but in order to make a choice many factors come in to play.

have some answers and then I can comment. cneterfire it is 85 % dots.

rimfire you need to look through them, any chance you can try one of a dot or xhair before buying.

Even though it is my own thread that got jacked I would go with the T36X weaver if I was shooting bench rest and a fine reticle (reticle choice is based on my affinity for fine reticle Unrtle, Fecker etc. prone guns). Go with the EFR for gopher blasting and silhouette (I got the target dot).

Thats my 2 cents with no experience in bench rest but allot of reading...

I am awaiting the arrival of my new Cooper LVT. I am about 1/2 way through the required 9 month wait time. Not in the same league as the real BR's but other than building a custom it will have to do for off the shelf.
Mine took 16 months.

Worth the wait though.

That is a beautiful rifle, does it have the oversized palm as well???

I don't think they do but I am not 100 % sure.

I have a couple leupolds with the fine plex and another with the dot and I think the comment that hits home the most is about the fine plex reticles seeming to wash out as our age creeps up on us.
The only complaint that I have with my Leupold Vari-X II 6-18X with target turrets and a dot reticle is that it is only good for BR work. Tried shooting gophers with it and the dot is hard to pick up against a darker animal.

Have changed my mind, target dot is to fine and too hard to see for fast target acquisition..

Get it with a fine duplex reticle, I think it would work better.

Nice rifle, think you did good!

Funny how they installed a plastic bolt nob on such a rifle... how well, replacement should be easy enough to find (and you can personalize it)

Like these...

I'm sure it could also make something interesting...
