You can get an after-market fully rifled 24" slug barrel with rifle sights for your 12ga. Remington 870 for $120 and free shipping. Yep, Mossberg makes them (Moss may have sold more Rem slug bbls than Big Green themselves!), they're good shootin'.

Cabela's latest sale and mid-season clearance as they call it, started today 7 July running until 20 July. Regular price $270.

It will ship for free with the code they promote at the top of their page, and it seems they will be sending via UPS during the impending Postal disruption on that free shipping.

Seems like a very good deal to me; I didn't think the mark-up was that high but there can't be any meat left on the bone at this point. Their U.S.A. sale has it for $90.

Done!

Thanks for heads up!

Work with a Maverick 88?

No; these are fitted for Remington 870, and should work on nearly all right-hand 12 gauge Wingmasters, Expresses, and 870 clones. I know it can be confusing that they are Mossberg manufactured, but Moss makes 'em for their own guns, or machines 870 tabs on at the factory so they have a bigger market. Rem also builds their own (in a 20" length I think).

A look on the Cabela's site shows the same barrel in a Mossberg 500/Maverick 88 configuration, but it's currently at regular price of $270. Next sale maybe?

$150 is a pretty happy deal on one of these if you found that used on the EE, so $120 new with no shipping should amaze people.

How did you stumble upon this deal... I usually check out firearms, but would never think to check barrels on such a deep discount sale?!

P.S.
Stay alert for possible sale on other barrels... and please do share again. :)

Having some time to kill after I read the e-mail promoting the start of the new sale, I went to their site and looked through the nearly 1.800 individual items promoted. You know, in case they had something I needed for shooting. Or fishing. Or camping, hunting, boating, just generally good fashion, stuff for around the home… Cabela's is a place like Canadian Tire: you only buy what's in the sales flyer, not regular price.

At first I saw the price and thought it was an error, but a check on the U.S.A. site found them advertised at $90 USD. I have to imagine this is actually below cost, unless Mossberg offered them a promotion on a train-load of them, so perhaps they are clearing them out for good. Too bad both the sighted and scope-mount versions aren't on deep deep discount.

(There is nothing altruistic about my post— you better believe I made sure to buy mine before I rushed over here to spread the good news!)

I think the Remington "Special Field" model had a shorter magazine tube to enhance its handling qualities. If yours is stamped Special Field and has a short barrel and English style straight grip then regular 870 barrels will not work on it. The barrel ring will be in the wrong place. From Remington: The Model 870 Special Field has a shorter magazine tube and we have designed it for the 23 inch barrel. Other barrels will not fit the Model 870 Special Field.
