Hi folks,
I need a little advice for reloading the Swiss 7.5x55. I am following the recipe from the Hornady reloading manual using Hornady 168gr A-Max with 40g of IMR 4064. The book says the C.O.L should be 3.025 but I can't even close my chamber at that length. I kept dropping the length until the chamber was in full battery but now my C.O.L is at 2.979. It looks shorter then the GP11 surplus I have on hand but the projectile does seem a little wider then the surplus. My question is, will dropping the length way past specs be a safety issue. Do you folk have a better recipe for the 6.5x55 for a 1952 K31.
Thanks for the help
Stan

I shot over 100 rounds of the 168 gr Hornady out of my K31 with 44.0 grs of IMR-4064 at an OAL of 2.885" for a MV of 2575 fps. Was a very accurate (and mild) load.

Awesome Andy, Thanks for the info. I've been reloading for about a year now and out of the six different calibers I reload for, this is the only one that differs from the spec in the book.

Hi. What are the case lengths? Hodgdon give 3.060" for the OAL. Trim to is 2.175". Mind you, if you use the length that will fit into the mag you'll be fine.
You're GP11 milsurp uses a heavier bullet. It will be longer.

K31 2.434" to rifling.

This is for my K31. All these still fit in the magazine. All shot well. Even with the depth differences between different bullet choices.
