Oh my gosh... "Bush packing" an antique for animal defense? Here I'll end this argument right now. Get a 12 gauge. More killing power. These old revolvers are one of the worst tools I can imagine for bear defence... But hey I'm the kind of guy that uses a shovel to dig and a hammer to drive nails not vice versa.

If some of you guys can't see what I'm saying about old Elmer being a blow hard I have my doubts you've read his books... Let's see, 600 yard deer with a hand gun, shooting things out of the air, and my favourite "the .38spl is no good". The old .38 spl was the round of choice for many a police department for many a year. almost 100 and killed many a bad guy in that time.

Furthermore, I don't believe that carrying a loaded antique is legal (unless you're stopped and target shooting on Crown land--where allowed) and certainly no antique pistol will make an effective tool against a "few things around here that would like to sit on you and peel the flesh off your arms while you scream for help" as compared to many handy non-restricted firearms with much more stopping power. The whole idea is ludicrous, and quite frankly, is dangerous. It does make a clever sales ploy.

Furthermore, the act of carrying loaded antiques is something I am not comfortable discussing on an open Forum as it could lead to a future loss of the privilege of owning Antique pistols very much the same way we own, transport, and store non-restricted long guns.

All of us enjoy the privilege of antique ownership. Cowboy tactics could mean a future loss of this privilege.

Cowboy tactics what a joke! lol
I only do whats legal not cower in fear because I don't understand the laws on this subject I have talked to CFOs on this subject to and its legal to discharge a antique handgun anywhere a none restricted firearm can be used. so once your in a USE area you can discharge a antique handgun.
Of course I wont argue that a modern rifle or shotgun would be better but there not as easy to carry as a antique handgun.
I just like packing mine into isolated locations to shoot targets.
I post this all the time im not gona stop because your panties are in a twist !

What all other antique handguns have you reloaded for and shot by the way so we can gage your true experience ?

"easy to carry"??

Shouldering a modern non-restricted firearm is the most accurate, most ethical, and legal way to dispatch a dangerous predator ! I really hope some prominent hunters in this forum chime-in to put to an end the ludicrous argument that supports carrying loaded antiques for bear defence! People who are inconvenienced by carrying a 12-gauge shotgun or a higher power carbine, shouldn't be strolling in the woods. It's not like you're a helicopter pilot that requires a high power pistol for protection while working in the deep woods.

Wheres the list ? No list whys that ?
Who said Bears defence ? that was you that said that not me LOL
Lot of people like to pack a antique handgun when hikeing ect because even if you have a rifle with you they get put down. antique handgun is right there in case wolves might attack there dogs or kids or cougars theres other things out there besides bears eh, cougars attack more people on Vancouver island than bears. around camp a holstered handgun any handgun is a good thing to have and lots of Canadains do it with no problems. Of course id rather have a 500 S&W so would anyone but you can not carry one of them with no licence.
Any antique handgun in the 41 to 45 cal and even the 38 sp ones out there are better than nothing.
Ive read enough about Cougar attacks around here to know a 45 acp webley will blow a cougar off a person even a 455 one would.
I have some antique handguns that can shoot 1000 FPS loads and up close that's gona kill anything. 800 Fps in a 250 gr SWC will do that up close.
I stopped getting in the Swiss 7.5 and nagants because there hard to load for for people with limited experience and most people want the 44 or 45 caliber handguns 99% of the guns I have sold are 44 or 45 caliber.
I have never had to fire at anything other than targets with my antique handguns so far. but I know with the ones I have if I put that shotgun down and needed the antique handgun its there handy in its flap holster.
There great when rideing horses to in case you get tossed.
