Swiss Arms Black Special, or Black Target?

Well, I had a Millett red dot fall apart on me, so I can't recommend the brand, but also can't comment on that specific scope, mind you.

But on a 3k+ rifle, I'd put some decent glass on it.

This is an easy decision...if you want to use optics then the black special target will be much easier to set up ergonomically. If you want to use irons, the classic green/black special with factory drum rear and hooded front post rock bigtime.

I've had both; the one I kept is irons on a classic green.

Cheers,

Brobee

What kind of range/targets are you shooting at ? You can get by with an Aimpoint or Eotech for shorter range work, or go with decent magnified optics for longer range / smaller targets work. A Leupold 3.5-10 or 4.4-14 would work well for coyotes. I have seen a few rifles done up with 6.5-20 Leupolds or Zeiss for gophers. Get good quality rings. Again, get good quality rings.

Personally, I would go with the Special. The reason is, if anything would happen to your scope. You always have your sights as your back-up. Optics, I would look at the Falcon Menace. Bang for buck, the Menace 4-14 X44 is a great scope. Check out Allen Gun Works on scopes.
Cheers.

Looks like a good scope.

Who all makes rails for these? IE the quad rails... I know the B&T one from Wolverine, but I thought I saw another one somewhere on here that was like 300-400?

THanks.

Ive got a elcan specter 0S mounted on my black speacial. It works good, its a tough dependable optic. Plus ive shot lots of gophers with it :)

What kind of rings would I need? Low, medium, high?

Here is a pic of a 2.5-10x32 NF mounted in .885in rings (low). Now, I'm not sure if ring height is standardised, but I don't think you'd fit a scope with a bigger objective on the low rings. The NF pictured almost touches the rail. I'd say you'd probably need about a 1.25in ring height at a minimum with a scope like you are suggesting. Without a knowing the true maximum OD of the scope, it would still be a guess.

for a 30MM tube you will need 1 1/2 rings (top of rail to center of optic) to clear the factory diopter.

He said he was going with the target version. Clearing the factory diopter is a non-issue.

Ok, so talking about ring heights in comparative terms (low medium high) is useless.
Figure out what the largest OD on the scope you want is, then choose rings that will clear it (don't forget dust caps). You want a ring set that has a dimension from the rail to the centre of the optical axis that is at least as large as half of that maximum OD plus a tiny bit of clearance.

hopefully op can try it all together to make sure it fits. had to take two rifles into the TSE with the optics just to make sure was getting the right rings.

If mounting optics, definately go with the flattop. My favorite optic for this rig is the NF 2.5-10x24.

What type of rail is that? It looks badass!
