Swiss Arms Black Special POI Suddenly Changes

The forward trunnion is also welded to the receiver stamping at the front. Any signs of damage in that area? The barrel is screwed directly to that trunnion. It would be very unlikely for it to fail at that point but...
What I find intriguing is that it only changes POI after getting hot, and making the sound.:confused:

I figured it out! A couple months ago I decided to mount my scope lower (for a better check weld). The lower rings and scope combo felt great, but now the backup iron front sight was hovering in the bottom of my scope. This irritated me and I decided to remove the front sight by drifting it out. I layed the rifle on my work desk with the charging handle facing down (removed of course). It seemed like it took more "hits" than I would have liked to drift it out. I shot a few 5 shot groups with the new scope setup then put it away for a few weeks, took it out again and started using it regularily, this is when I noticed the strange "ting" noise and POI change. I suspected the scope/rings, so this is where I looked first by swaping scopes/rings, test, etc... It wasent until today that I finally reinstalled the front sight and took it out to zero in. During the process I ended up positioning the front sight very close to the non-charging handle side of the rifle. And an AUHAAA momen struck me, the gas block is tweaked because I drifted to hard on the front sight. Oh well, not the first or last time I'll learn something the hard way. So now I want to remove the gas block by drifting out the stakes/pins (part #213) and reinstall new pins. I like to work on my guns myself and would prefer not to send it back to the armourer. Has any one else done this before? Any advice?
 
Yes I've done it.... be careful not to push the roll pins (thats what they are) fully out of the block or you will hate trying to get them to start back in again as they will expand to a size larger than the hole they came out of. There is enough room to get them clear of the barrel without removing them from the block.

I drifted them out all the way (before I read your suggestion, whoops), cleaned the gas block and inspected. The fit of the gas block on the barrel is relatively snug, but it seems a bit loose. Other than that it looks fine, so I pressed the pins back in, but I rotated them to change the original positioning. The original position allowed the pins to fit VERY loosely when trial fitted into the barrel. I'm going to find some new pins to order, and install them. For now, I took the rifle back out and gave it a try. Send 90 rounds through it, got it smoking hot, and it didnt fail once. However, I did notice that the group tightened up the hotter the gun got (strange!!). The accuracy of my Black Special has never been great, and I suspect the gas block needs some attention in the form of new roll pins. It seems to me that the gas block to barrel fit gets tighter as the barrel gets hotter. No matter though, these swiss rifles are amazing, and this is by far my favorite rifle in the safe.

On a different note: I have some .jpg pictures I would like to attach, is any one able to tell me how to do that, I cant seem to find the "attach picture" function in this program?

Sounds like she's back to normal, but yeah drifting out the original front sight pin could have jarred something loose!


For pics, go to an image hosting site (like www(dot)imageshack(dot)us ) and upload the pics (just hit "Browse" then find the file and hit okay).

When its uploaded, the way I like to do it, is left-click on the small thumbnail image, and it'll bring up the fullsize one. then you can right click on the picture and copy the image link (ctrl-C, then ctrl-V in the forum text).

the image link should look something like: www.imageshack.us/blahblahblahgun1.jpg

put some image tags around the image link: (with the -###- being the image link) -###-

and it should show em.
