Swiss Arms Black Special

Anyone has a website or can share what's the proper way of cleaning and oling/greasing the rifle? The manual is very vague...
Tarn I like your rifle's scope mount that allows the use of the irons..what is it?

I got rid of the black grease and oiled the moving components with CLP. Lightly lubed the rails and internal guides the bolt carrier group rides on to limit wear. I also applied a light coat of CLP on all internal surfaces, welds and seems for corrosion protection.

Any rifle can be rebarreled. As for the SIG/Swiss Arms rifles, several CGN members have successfully rebarreled their rifles. I own both SIG & AR-15s, the SIG, hands down, is the better built rifle. I even prefer them over my original Colt AR-15s. The AR-15 platform is still great, make no mistake, and they have definite advantages in terms of availability of aftermarket accessories, relatively inexpensive magazines and ability to swap uppers in the matter of minutes. However, if I had to choose just one rifle, it would be the SIG/Swiss Arms.

I have both and I find the Sigs to be heavy and they have worst mag design, i find it very cumbersome to change mags with one hand and the AR very easy.

untill I sold it :bangHead:

Shut up....I don't want to hear it :(

A few questions:

1. Do you have any pics of the ironsights that came with it? If not could you describe them?
2. What kind of rail is on top? It looks like a picatinny. Tell me it's not some weird neutral swiss one that I need an adapter for?

Thanks

Those are the flat top models. They don't come with sights. The picatinny rail comes stock with the rifle.

Ah nuts! Well I guess that it's the Black Special for me then. I'm more interested in a rifle that I can go from Irons -> Optics and back when the mood suits me.

Thanks for all the information guys!

Thanks for the info. What about the gas piston and spring? I take it for granted that the piston should be bone dry but what about the spring on the piston rod? Oil? Grease? or dry?

Armament is wrong, the flat top models with integral Picatinny rails do come with a flip-up diopter sight, like Skullboy pointed out earlier.

I know of two...one was done by TSE and JR says 'never again,' I don't know who did the other but it sure ain't as easy as an AR bbl.

It's not a flip up diopter...just a flip up aperture.

I like them so much I've decided to get the entire family....but I'll never give up the AR's.

I've rebarreled my BlueStar from the stock 1:10" twist barrel to a Nato spec 1:7" barrel. It is not for the faint of heart and it is not as easy as doing an AR15. The barrels are really torqued on tight.

Whoops  . I'd have purchased the flat top if I had the chance.

Note: I never said it was as easy to change a SIG barrel as an AR...I also pointed out that one of the advantages of the AR platform was the interchangeable uppers.

As for the magazine system, anybody who has used the M-14 or AK-47/AK-74 won't have a problem with it. I know of a couple of guys on this board who were of the same opinion that the SIG mag changes were awkward, etc...coming from AR-15 backgrounds. My response was to give it a little time and practice...those same naysayers are now hardcore SIG fans and their mag change times aren't that much off that of an AR, if any.

I think the mag change works better on the sig than the AR because the rotation as it goes in makes sure that it is seated properly where as the AR mag can pop back out at times.

Keep that gas system spotless...she gets dirty very fast and no one want to chisle carbon deposits out of a $3000 gun. Have fun with it!

I wish I had $3000 in free cash to spent!!!

I'd buy one.

+1. Although the gas selector has a setting for extreme fouling keep the tube, valve and piston clean. The receiver is gas-free so it requires little cleaning apart from the barrel chamber.
