Keep the bearing parts of the bolt, bolt carrier, & main spring greased. If not with the oem stuff, then a lithium grease or something like Millitech (what I use).
Apply a CLP type oil to all the metal parts. everything.
When you want to shoot it, wipe the oil from the chamber, barrel, bolt face and gas effected parts (piston head, gas block & gas plug)
Q. Leaving your gas system dirty for long periods will do what? Bueller? Bueller?
A. Let the carbon encrusted parts attract moisture.
Q. Moisture will do what to your rifle?
A. Corrosion, most likely in the form of rust. Sigs won't rust you say?
(If left long enough, it will even damage the chrome plated piston)If you want to run optics, the flat top is your best option.
