Swiss Arms Black Special

So. The "SAN/SWISS ARMS Classic Green" and other coloured nomenclature therein were brought in as variants of the 540. Which. They. Are.
It is my understanding through sources intimate with the whole debacle - from the regulatory side of things - were fine with this.
A complainant from the public was persistently not fine with this.
Sashay left, sashay right, jazz hands - and now we are where we are.

They really aren't a SIG 540 though. The 540 WAS a precursor to the 550 series, but once the 550 was approved for swiss military sale the PE90 was created as the civilian semi-auto version. At the time TSE and the owner of Swiss Arms created a "modified" version of the PE90 and they pulled a fast one by SAYING it was a variant of the 540. They stated that the Swiss Arms classic series were made on an entirely different production line, which is AS BIG a line of BS as the CZ858's being "full auto receivers; never assembled - made into semi-auto spec rifles" when we knew damn well they were full military surplus rifles being converted. The factory lied to the importer and they were eventually caught. Some of them were actually made the way they said, but it was only the small portion of '858 rifles that are still legal to own.

It was a lie, and the RCMP knew (eventually). They WERE more than happy to ignore it though, considering it was a high end firearm that never caused any issues. TSE pushed the "converted 550" angle to those couple refurbished rifles and the RCMP did a full review of the Swiss Arms series and here we are.

It's the same stuff as the HK243 (The H&K made to be hard to convert) being classed as "easily converted to full auto" while we have a few dozen legitimate R/NR G36's here. The RCMP know what's going on, and they're more than happy to sweep it under the carpet being that they are extremely rare collector items.

They are 550s. Always were always will be.

No, they are not a 540, that we agree on.
However the San / Swiss Arms Classic series can trace it's lineage to the 540 and is a variant of the 540 - separate and distinct from the 550 lineage.
That is the crux of the argument and one the RCMP could not say otherwise because it is documented.

I'm not sure why you guys are arguing the point. It may seem like semantics, but it is a small victory in a sea of failure that is C68. Take it for what it is worth.

From what I got within the years, they are Sig550 ish or pre 550 if that makes any sense. Maybe between 540 and 550?

I’m willing to take my chance on buying one even if they go prohibited. If anyone has a Swiss Arms 553 Classic Green with the diopter site and a Swiss or B&T top rail for mounting an optic they would sell I would be willing to pay $4,000-$6,000 depending on the condition and what it comes with. PM me

SAN did produce diopter sight sets that attach to the rail and front sight block, so you can have the best of both worlds with one rifle.
I just found a set I was not a huge fan of the flat top but I got a hell of a deal and was able to get one at least now that I have the Swiss diopter sights I may not end keeping my wanting to trade ad up
