Hello, im new to the forum. I just purhcased a swiss arms black special, and am pretty exited to pick it up. Questions about breaking in the barrel, is there any special technique.

Where can i buy some extra clips, like 10 or 30 rounds. Do i get them from swiss or are there other manufacturers that are compatible.

Lastly about picatinny rails, anyone know where to get them for the upper sight mounts, and front grip.

Thanks
Jon

They are called magazines not clips .... By Canadian law you can only have 5 round magazines , you can buy 20 and 30 round mags but they are pinned or rivited at 5 rounds.. sounds like you never learned too much at your PAL course ? might want to read some stickys for good info .

Some on here may know more than me regarding barrel breakin, but my advice is go out and shoot it! As far as mags go, the Swiss ones are available, but are pretty pricey. Canada Ammo sells an offshore made knock-off which are excellent. Top rails can be found quite easily, B&T, Kyle, NEA, there are several. B&T makes a nice one that mounts on the handguard as well.

You have purchased the finest 5.56 rifle ever built. Enjoy!

I hate throwing newbs under the bus, but it's just to difficult to tell if someone with a single post, asking about 30 round "clips", is a troll or actually someone looking for help:confused:

Barrel requires ZERO break in. It's not an XCR:p:p:p. Take it out, and shoot it.

Canam has after market 5/30 round Swiss Mags. As stated earlier they will be pinned to five as per Canadian Law. Top rails can be had from a number of distributors, The shooting Edge probably has them as well as Calgary Shooting Center, you might try the EE as well, there is usually something there.

Calling a magazine a clip around here, will get you ridiculed until the cow's come home, it's called a magazine. If you call it a clip people will just think your a dumbass.

Also, out of curiosity, who taught you your PAL course, when did you take it, and whereabouts did you take it? There are clearly more than a few people out there teaching these courses who are not covering the proper course material. If you can come on here having recently taken a PAL course and still be asking about 30 round clips, something is drastically wrong with your PAL instructor's methods.

+1 On what Steve Janes wrote...

It's a slippery slope and I hate to see the standard constantly dropping especially here where the world can see.....

wow not what i expected. well lets finish this off in fashion, i know the law about the 5 round magazine. where is it illegal to purchase a 10 or larger MAGAZINE (dont want to offend anyone else in this perfect world) and have it pinned to 5 rounds. huh thats weird i thought the 3rd reich ended in the 40s. so i guess we cant buy lazers either with your rational, they might melt someones eyes, hell why modify your guns at all and have something different. well i guess its on the band wagon i go, apparently we cant customize and have fun in hobby anymore because there are to many know-it alls who come on forums and try to get people to do things they dont want. well im sorry i pissed off or offended you.

thanks anyways, i most likely wont come back here for advice or information regarding sport shooting because i might get called out by some internet wizzard.

if his course was similiar to mine, im surprised he did not have an aneurism. I have not learned #### at my course. Acctually, I'm glad I whipped all that crap out of my head after the first week and re-educated myself on this forum. Lets not insult new members.

No worries, if you're that soft skinned, the internet may not be for you. Enjoy your new rifle!

within 5 post he got pooped on. all because he called a mag a clip? I know people in infantry that call them clips. Terminology is not something they give a damn about. Also, we were all newbies at one point. If you start a sport and everyone is being a ####, not really a good idea considering how we always talk about bringing more shooters to the sport.

seriously? come take it in northern NB. I think your jaw might hit the floor. my experiences were about 10 years ago, im sure they have not gotten any better.

If you never learned the legal mag capacity in Canada and the proper terminology of the main parts of a firearm in your PAL course , your instructor is incompetent and you never read your course textbook . Forums are not the place to learn these things ,, what about the other 95% of Canadian PAL holders that have never heard of CGN let alone even know what a forum is lol

no i think others mistakenly accused him of not knowing the legal limit. he seems to be quite aware of the 5 round cap. And my instructor could be called incompetent, or much worse. Did you know if you put a pistol grip on a shotgun it becomes restricted because you hold it like a handgun?

ppl around here dont set a good example for the shooting sports. why would anyone want to join a club or a range if attitudes like this are all too common.

No, I agree, not cool, but people will do it. This is the internet, home of ####, know-it-alls, trolls, and keyboard bullies. If you want to play, you have to put your big kid pants on, and be willing to call out the occasional jerk. That's life. You know the deal on CGN: they eat their young.

100% true and I agree with you. But as a mod its my job to enforce the rules, which in this case I totally believe in. I bring a lot of newbies to the range, I help maybe a dozen people a year get their RPALs, set up their courses and do as much "instructor Q&A" as I possibly can. You know what the majority of them say? They are happy to have someone they don't feel singled out or treated like a drooling tard. Warms me little heart :D Man, I remember as a kid how these laws can really be hard to understand. I still hear the oddest questions daily!

I think when your trying to tell someone through text rather than in person that they are doing something incorrect its hard not to come off as a rude jerk .. Im sorry if i came off like that in any of my posts , just trying to correct your mistakes . live and learn ,, getting offended on the internet is a waste of time .

If this is the attitude you take then good riddance! Don't let the door hit ya in the ass on the way out! This "Know it all" (as you so kindly put it) didn't try to get you to do anything you didn't want, in complete seriousness, this wizzard doesn't give a shiit. I only gave you answers to your questions and advice on proper terminology so the vultures that we both know are out there don't eat you alive.

Don't bother saying thanks for actually giving you answers to your original questions! Maybe I shouldn't have bothered!

Apparently not.....Where is it illegal to purchase a 10 or larger round magazine and pin it to 5 rounds you say??? In Canada dude. You can have someone purchase a unpinned mag in another country, then they can send it to you, as long as the rivet it to 5 rounds first, very few retailers will do this. But actually buying a 30 round Pmag for example and then riveting it to 5 in your garage, thats illegal man, where can you legally buy a 30 round pmag in Canada?

I wasn't a ####, I answered every one of his questions, and was kind enough to warn him that people will think he's out to lunch if he uses that kind of video game terminology.

seriously? come take it in northern NB. I think your jaw might hit the floor. my experiences were about 10 years ago, im sure they have not gotten any better.

I here ya, I think that my point, I asked where and who taught him so that we can publicize where not to go learn!!! There are to many idiot PAL instructors, but I agree with this next quote also:

Did I mention my PAL instructor is in Federal Prison for embezzling $250,000 worth of firearms from his business. Yes you know who he is ;) ;) ;) Such a Lucky fellow afterall!

Better yet don't bother asking questions. If you don't already know the answer then you must be stupid.
