I managed to score a Sig 553 347mm barrel from another member a few weeks back and had Calgary Shooting Centre supply the additional parts and do the transition from a 551 Carbine to a 553 LB ( long barrel ) This still is restricted but gives me the Carbine that I wanted. Also had Jakob add the Nato Bayonet Standard as they did not have any Swiss ones available. I want to thank Markus and Jakob for the fine service that they provided. While this was expensive I now have what I want. As they say the only difference between Men and Boys is the price of the toys. Below is a couple of before and after photos or in this case after and before.

Very cool! I recently went on a similar journey, but wanted to make my Carbine into a NR.

I was wondering who scored that longer 553 barrel!

I do like that! I guess at some point I should post a picture of my full length PE90, just to make the thread complete :p

I've often wondered about a NR carbine. I feel like the balance on that would be oh so wonderful.

I wondered too for many years... it's spectacular. :) I'm currently struggling whether to use some magnification, or leave it like a true carbine and run the 2moa Aimpoint. I figure it's a 300 yard and less gun... anything further, I have accurate semis and bolt guns, so why make this heavier than it needs to be? It's not a DMR - although it does shoot under an inch at 100 yards, so I guess it COULD be.

Rigrat - very cool - I prefer the grey receiver to my black actually! It's a very unique piece for sure. While there are lots of NR carbines, yours is really the only CQB LB in-country! :)

What exactly were your reasons for rebarrelling the CQB?

I kept my CQB as it was and barrelled a Carbine so it would be a 553 bolt system. Had to replace all the gas system and the hand guards. Barrel lengths are essentially the same but this has the profile I was looking for and now I can also mount a bayonet.

There should be no reason you can't reach out there with a 18 1/2" barrel. Other Board members will verify that I ring the gong at 500 yards 8 out of 10 times with my CQB with a 9 inch barrel. At least I could when I had IVI ammo. The PMC 62 gr doesn't have the legs for it. The Classic Green is 10 out of 10 all day.

I`ve seen rigrat work magic with his CQB . You need to step back a few paces , that little rifle is very loud. Nice work on the 553 , it looks even better in person .
