Swiss Arms CQB/553 flat-top (pics)

I'm judging that because of the old style flash hider that it has the 553 style bolt upgrade. I'm assuming that the bolt is not serial numbered. Or if it is, it doesn't match the rifle.

Does the reciever say CQB, classic green or carbine? I could see a simple barrel swap between a CQB and a carbine to get the flat top, and then a 553 style bolt upgrade ($700 last time a checked) to get the better bolt system.

Sorry to break it to you but, you're all wrong. They are marked CQB's: with the updated internals. All the parts have matching serial numbers. The SG553 is produced with both flash hiders.
I know, because I have the one and only other one that is the sister to Unclewalther's.

Like Rich said, this is not some Frankenswiss cobbled together from parts of other rifles.

On the outside, looks exactly as my CQB - I am not sure, but I think mine is 552.

Whats the major changes? I dont have my Carbine to compare to these pics right now, but whats new and why was it changed? Other than the flattop.

Can you prove continued production of the old style flash hider on the SG 553? All other information sources say the opposite. In fact, even the late model SG 552's had the new style flash hider.


I could have been mistaken in thinking that the SG 553 upgrade involved a new bolt. In which case if it uses the existing bolt, the serial number should be the same. This could be a 552 flat top model with the upgrade, but I doubt that it is a new production SG 553 style rifle on account of the flash hider.
 
You're wrong. Sorry to say. SAN has both models of Flash hider in stock. I perfer the looks of the old one anyways. They use parts on hand to assemble rifles. They will probably eventually start using only the new model when the old ones run out.

Yes, as I said before, the serial numbers match everything. These are new production, not conversions. By the way, the information on the $700 to purchase the parts for conversion of a SG552 to SG553 came from me. I was in Europe a while back and spoke directly to the man in charge.

As Rich actually visits the SAN factory from time to time, I am inclined to side with him. Besides, I know what I see. Here's some pics of the rest of the trio:

So the front flip sight looks like its just the standard front sight without the shroud, right?

It does not have the CQB white-dot front post. It only has the thin target post, same as on the black special target. The rear site has a vertical plate with a peephole aperture which slides up and down to adjust for elevation.

My mistake then. I was wrong.

This must be either the new run of CQB's coming in or a custom order.
 
Well to add more confusion this is the one I just received from SAN which is different than all three.

EDIT: Okay, now a see a slight different. Yours has a collar on the bottom, which is not on my mine.

I also thought yours looked to be round behind the grenade ring with two wrench flats. The one I have is hexagonal....kinda odd
