In Canada these are range guns and the 9 inch barrel is capable on any 600 yard range, in combat. 8 inch barrel is fine out to 300 yards. A dedicated red dot is fine, I just fine a nf 1-4 gives a guy everything an aim point does and the added magnification for stretching its legs at the range. Sure if it's absolutely purpose built then go with a reflex only. In fact these short barrels are significantly more accurate than the 20 inch barrels which is why one of mine wore a nf 5.5-22, the tools all wear micros.

What I am saying is that a long range scope on these rifles makes sense as they are to be used strictly on the range and can be used for nothing else by the general public, in Canada.

In combat situations they are typically used for cqb work where speed to target is very critical and reflex sites make a lot of sense.

Why are you confused This isn't rocket science?

Hope your scope has enough elevation adjustment for 600 yard shots for 5.56 out of a 9" barrel :p

Or that's gonna be a heck of a hold over! :D
 
You put some serious money into the purchase of your rifle, don't cheap out on glass. Aimpoints are great for CQB, whereas an ACOG is nice for the longer shots. I would spend the money and get the best of both worlds, go for an Elcan Spectre DR. After using a multitude of optics over the years, I use the Elcans on almost all my rifles.

I had an Eotech 3-0 XPS on my 10.5" LMT, it was great for close range shooting, but although I could hit the paper at 100 yards, I felt the gun's accuracy deserved a better optic for longer range shots.

I replaced the ACOG TA31F (4X) that was on my 16" AR with a NF 2.5 - 10, so the ACOG went onto the 10.5". Although the 4X ACOG provides better accuracy at 100 yards and beyond when compared to the Eotech, the 4X ACOG lacks a bit when it comes to shooting close range CQB. The Eotech is much faster to aquire targets with both eyes open and at 1X.

I have now decided to move to a 1-4 X on my 10.5". At first I was thinking a 1-4 scope, either a NF or Trijicon, and if I could gather the funds.......................a S&B Red Dot!

However, a good friend of mine has a Spector DR 1-4, after looking at it and reading up on it, this is now the optic I am thinking of aquiring for my 10.5" for CQB.

And can you tell me what velocity a standard 5.56 round retains at 300 yards when fired from a 8 inch barrel???

8 inches is good for CQB, thats it!!! You can punch paper just fine out to 300 yards with an 8 inch, but for combat, 5.56 needs to be going at least 2500-2700FPS to consistently fragment, you barely get that at the muzzle of a 8 inch barrel, and certainly not at 300....

If you read up on it, anything shorter than 10 inches that fires 5.56 is pretty much a hundred yard gun at best when it comes to combat, they just can't get the velocity at range. But let's come back to reality, WE SHOOT PAPER, so unless your going to war with it 8 inches is fine:D

A magnifier on an LT-660 swivel mount or the Eo G23.FTS extends the range of the RDS or HWS from x1 to 3x.
 
Yes, I tried one of those. Trouble is the red circle and dot are magnified 3X as well.

The main issue I had with the Eotech are my old eyes!

I have some astigmatism in both eyes, plus I had Lazik eye surgery about 11 years ago, so the red circle and dot in the Eotech are a small bunch of 'dancing' red pixels!! So the 3X just made those red dancing pixels three times larger!

When you actually construct a proper sentence i'm not confused at all.

Not all of us are in Canada and I do have a tiny bit of experience in the requirements of CQB.

Sorry was too busy, taking math and foreign languages, to major in grammar.

If you want to use the shortie rifle out past 100 yards I highly recommend a 1-4, or better yet the March 1-10.

We run our 553's at 2900 fps and they work great, typical range is 50-200M

I never shut my micro off, ever. I replaced the battery after three years just because I thought I should. The Tr-25 has a 3000 hour battery life, which will get you 125 days. Not bad, unless you forget to turn it off.

I've shot with the TR25 and it's a good little red dot, but the CQB deserves better IMO.

Thats ok, no need to apologize.

Our short barrels are used for pretty specific applications. Going past 150m would be unusual. I use a 2moa aimpoint to allow for slightly longer shots.
