Swiss arms, HK sl8, or an XCR?

I paid $3000 for my Swissarms flattop long barrel Carbine a few years ago and $2700 for the 14.3 Carbine that TSE was selling a couple of years back.

The seller has the right to price however they want however.

Great thread. Glad it came up again... gotta love the "living" forum concept.

I own a VZ58s which is about as close to a Black Rifle I come.

I think this has helped me decide that my first one will be the XCR.... with a conversion kit :)

I have an SL8. All dressed up to be a G36 of course.
Do you mind if I ask how much money you've put into that project? I'd definitely love an SL8 that I could dress up as a G36 or PSG1, but I suspect that on top of the 2k the rifle will cost me, I'd be looking at a significant amount for stock/grip and rails for each configuration.
Indeed.

Absolutely, 100% agree. However, when I look on the EE and see someone selling a used gun with no upgrades that's readily available for $500-$600 brand new, asking for $900, I cannot help but think "whaaaa?". Anyway, sorry for steering off topic, carry on :)

Fully agree. It's ridiculous to see pricing like that. I was looking for a Savage Bas-K not too long ago...and someone offered me an unshot one for $1850. They sell for $1620 new at Ellwood Epps now haha.

You've all failed to mention one very important detail. The Heckler & Koch SL-8 is made in Germany by Germans. Did I mention it was made in Germany?

Well, I purchased the SL8 for 1600$ on the EE.
G36 single optic for 300$ from EE,
G36 stock from EE for 125$
G36 stripped lower, pin, stock axle, back plate, various other parts from various sources, about 400$ total
Flashhider 25$ from some place don't remember
Barrel work 400$ from local smith
Some misc costs during assembly: 150$
Work putting it all together: Did it myself, so it's priceless.

Total cost was about 3000$. Today I would wager it might be about 4000$, because I got the rifle for a steal I have never seen again.

Your results may vary, your costs may be higher or lower, parts are near impossible to find, risk involved, knowledge required, legal requirements must be satisfied during assembly, toxic fume hazard during assembly, love of final result can ruin marriages, German engineering will leave you envious, etc, etc, you have been warned. But, I get stares of awe and hate at the range. The dude with the Norinco M4gery still chuckles about all the money he saved.

I have owned or shot all three.

SAN- great rifle, very accurate. Rock in mags, non-restricted 20" version is front heavy.

Xcr- great rifle, very accurate, feels flimsier than SAN. Takes AR mags, has conversion kits if that's your thing. New trigger is great. Front heavy with 18.6" HBAR.

SL-8 great rifle. very accurate. Very heavy. Can get AR mag well. Can convert to g36.

Tavor- great rifle. Balances like a dream. Compact. Solid. Heavy, but the weight is rearward. Horrible trigger. Offset between bore and line of sight (with optic) makes poi sensitive to rifle cant.

I sold my other .223/5.56 guns and kept the tavor. I love how compact it is and love the bullpup design.

You really can go wrong with any of the guns.

The Swiss Arms is made in Switzerland by the Swiss.
What's your point?

The Swiss are just like Germans, but with better wine, cheese, pasta and public transit. Come to think if it, the Swiss are a conglomeration of French, Italian and German with some English expats running around in there as well. Kinda what Germany wanted to be before we took umbrage and handed them their backsides. :D

Although I would like to get a SAN, I will probably end up with a XCR somewhere down the road. Being able to drive around with a rifle in the vehicle or UTV that isn't restricted is a plus for me. Using AR mags is another. Minute of coyote is fine, I have a Cooper if I need better accuracy.

Thanks. I think this is the route I'm going to go, because it's a great rifle, and because of my long standing love affair with the G36.

I suspect it will take me time to acquire all the parts, I priced out the extras on the German sl-8.de site (or whatever it is), and the parts I want come to around $2000, so I'll just bide my time, and keep an eye out for bargains.

If you feel compelled to sell yours for around what you paid for it, I'd be happy to take it off your hands.

I haven't shot but I have held all of the rifles mentioned including a Tavor.

Only one that made me want to buy it was the XCR and yes @ 6'3" the stock is a bit short for me I would love another 1 1/2" but there are times when I am carring in the bush that the shorter stock totally works for me and as of now I can live with it.

I have both the 223 & 6.8spc barrels for my rifle and I'm seeing that I prefer the 6.8spc more than the 223 so much so that I am thinking of putting my 223 kit up for sale on the EE but I am using the rifle almost exclusively for hunting coyotes/deer/black bear.

I have only had one failure but I have only shot appr 600 rounds 4oo 223 - 200 6.8spc so far.

It is super easy to change barrels/bolts and both of my barrels ae more than accurate enough for shooting/hunting out to 330 yards getting under 4" 3 shot groups with the 6.8spc/95gr TTSX bullets at this range.

Not going to say what you should get just saying that I am extremely happy with my XCR... :D

Well, it arrived today, and it's a thing of beauty.

Can't wait to range test it this weekend :)

Now the hunt for a G36 stock and lower begins....
