Swiss Arms now or wait for FAMAE

Does anyone find the front heaviness of the Swiss Arms hindering their ability to make accurate shots standing up? I love the rifle but the front heavy weight was not appealing.

Heavy yes, but I find it better balanced than most long shot guns.
Then again I have the physique of Jabba the Hut with poor bladder control.

Being a bit front heavy makes a rifle better for longer range shots, at least I've always like them that way. Not so much as to strain the arms but enough heft to dampen movement.

I had a FAMAE on pre order.....until I found out the exact price. F' that.
They are not made of the same quality as the Swiss but commanding near Swiss prices. No thanks.
Also OP you are comparing apples to oranges in IMO.
Do you want a 308 or a 223? Range toy...then go for the 223 as it will be cheaper to feed. All depends on your goals for the rifle.
I never buy guns that just come out either......look at the T97 junk that was pawned off to the Canadian market.
Im going to mention NEA.....disaster. List goes on

Swiss Arms... a no brainer. I absolutely love mine.
Nothing will happen to it, meaning it will still be perfectly legal to keep in the long future to come however no more will be imported. This will inevitability drive the prices up, just like what happened in the states with their PE90/STGW 90's!
You will never regret the purchase of the Swiss & would be taking a risk on the quality of the FAMAE SG542.

If you don't buy it, send me a PM for the sellers contact info & I will send you $ for a finders fee...

I would say the opposite will occur...

If the Swiss becomes prohibited. The famae gun's will also. They are the same type and made from the same design. Swiss rifle's are
Well made and the famae should be close in quality, but it is military in design because the semi-auto's were made for the chile state
Police training school.

Welcome to the forum Solingen......LOL

You know as well as I do the details. Of course that because you asked me, and I told you, but that's besides the point, Stop trying to scare people.

SAN Rifles aren't going anywhere. The RCMP are just doing what they do, if they could have they would have.

The sooner we all get over it and the businesses relax and bring them out of the back rooms and start selling them again, then this will all fade away into nothing. The RCMP made an attempt and failed, and figure the longer they say nothing at all, the longer the rifles stay in limbo, to them this is "guns off the street"

Our Black Specials / Classic Green rifles are EXACTLY the same as the Swiss PE90 with two very important exceptions:

1. Those little bits of metal on the inside of the receiver to prevent the f/a trigger group from fitting:
a. Small Finger - tacked into the Swiss PE90
b. Large Block - silver soldered & then laser welded into our SANS

2. a. Swiss Arms uses the 540 mandril on our rifles
b. Swiss Arms uses the 550 mandril on the PE90

There is NO difference between the two mandrils - they are both just the first step on two different process lines.

The bulge on the 550's lower receiver necessary for the 3 rnd burst selection is formed on a SECOND mandril used in the 55x production line, and the channels inside the 55x needed by the f/a trigger group is a SLEEVE which is pressed / soldered / then welded in the receiver later down the 55x production line.

Contrary to popular belief - the Swiss PE90 CANNOT be made full auto, as it is exactly the same as our rifles.

After our Swiss Arms rifles come off the 540 mandril - they join the 55x production line for the barrel, bolt, bolt carrier, gas system, and furniture.

Our Canadian rifles are the only ones SANS does this with - ergo a minimum order of 25 rifles is needed for them to go through the re-tooling (change out the mandrils) of the production line.

This is why the RCMP are so pissed off - it is a PE90, but it isn't ....

FYI The 540-1 now uses the same trigger group as the 542-1 This is not the same as the SIG Classic PE90.

I have no dog in this fight and don't own either a Swiss or FAMAE.
If the RCMP were to prohibit the Swiss rifles do you think all would go prohib or just those built on converted receivers.
Was it one line of rifles that have run into problems or are all in the same boat?

From everything I have read some receivers are converted some are not.

I know this would be speculation but what are your thoughts?
Does anyone have clear pics on what to look for in a receiver to tell if it was a convert or not?
What's the difference between the different Swiss rifles Special Green, Special Black, Special K ...?

I know there are lots of questions but a lack of clear information has kept me away from these rifles up to now.

Same boat as the recent CZ858 issue. The Swiss Arms we get all come from the same factory as the military Stgw.90/SG550 line.
The RCMP does not like how the rifles looks/functions/quacks so similar to the modern military counterpart, thus questions its direct lineage.

The existing SAN rifles here are not going anywhere though. The only thing the RCMP can do is to deny further importation.
Enjoy your Swiss Arms if you already gotten one, because I do not think we will be seeing any new guns imported ever until SAN comes up with a totally different Canadian PE90 model that passes their arbitrary decisions.

Everybody should be aware, blocking importation is a strategy they be using more to ban further guns.
This saves them money for lawsuits and compensation, and still effectively takes away guns they see fit.
