What are folks experiencing in terms of 100M accuracy with their SA rifles (or carbines and CQBs)? The best I have been able to do firing from the shoulder (no rear bag) with the front on a rest is 1.5 MOA using a 10X scope.

Is this considered good, average or poor for this rifle? After shooting precision for so long anything over .7 MOA looks like a shotgun blast to me.

I have to admit that while I really like the rifle I find it awkward to shoot with a scope on it. Maybe I need a cheekpiece for it.
 
At 100 yards I was getting around 1 inch groups. That was with 62 grain Winchester which isn't match ammo. With the PE-90 you'll have to reload to get excellent accuracy or buy the Swiss Ruag ammo. The rifle is designed for 63 grain ammo. 55 grain shoots poorly and even the 69 grain Lapua match ammo that I bought didn't shoot well. The 62 grain stuff however wasn't bad. I have some 64 grain ammo that I'll be reloading. If I can't get good accuracy then I'll have to buy the expensive Swiss stuff.

These rifles will shoot. You just have to find the right ammo.
 
I get under 2" consistently with the iron sights, and I am NOT a patient rifle shot. (American Eagle crap 62gr FMJ).

I'm pretty sure that would be cut in half, or better, with optics.

Your theory about a cheekpiece sounds good to me.

What rate of twist?

I'm 1 in 7 and so far I've not gotten and "Wow" groupings yet. I hope to have it scoped in a couple of weeks then we shall see.

I would like to compair it to a 1 in 10 twist just to see which one averages better.

I dunno about dotting the "i" or crossing the "t", but with iron sights I can throw all the rounds into the 9 ring with a buddy's Swiss Arms with the diopter sights... You guys remember what those are, right? ;)
 
I have a Black Special Target (flat top) with a twist of 1 in 10 topped with a Luepold Mark 4 3-10x 40 I've tried 36 gr Barnes Varmint Grenades, Shoot one 5 shoot group where 4 were almost touching and one flyer (I think it's law somewhere that there has to be one flyer;)) but then the next 5 were all over the place. Then I tried Barnes TSX 70 gr. At 50 yards shoot one ragged hole, then I moved to 100 yards and couldn't hit a 4x8 sheet of plywood that my targets were on:confused:. So I went back to 60 gr. Hornady A-max I can shoot 1 MOA all day.
 
Black Special Target and everything I put through it shot moa or better at 100 yds except for one group of AE 55 gr. that was 1.2" and I believe i was to blame for that. The 62gr fodder definitely performed better. I would love to try some RUAG ammo and see what it will do. This shooting was done with a cheap rubber armoured 3 X 9 Tasco.
 
I am not sniper but could hit spent shotgun shells at 200m with my (scoped) Blk special...any misses would be operator flaws.

I really really should not have sold her..
 
Thanks guys. 1.5 MOA isn't cutting it. I am using the RUAG 63 grain too. It seems I have some experimentation to do with regard to ammo and/or I need to learn how to shoot this thing better (probably more of the latter).

Incidentally, I can't find a mark on the barrel or anywhere else on the rifle that indicates twist rate. I am assuming most of these rifles are 1 in 10?

From what I gathered reading on the Swiss rifle forum, the 1 in 7 is made for export and will have the inside of the flash hider threaded to accept the Swiss arms made blank firing attachment. 1 in 10 barrels are for domestic use and do not have threading inside the flash hider as the Swiss do not use this type of BFA. Not sure if they use any BFA for that matter.

Put a bag under the rear. Your groups will do much better. Believe me ;). Higher powered scope will also help with seeing movement when aiming at 100 yards.
 
I hope to have the 64 grain ammo loaded up this fall. I'll post some results when I do. Mine is set up as a Designated Marksman rifle (flat top target model). I have a 6.5-20x 50mm scope on it. So this should give a pretty good indication of the accuaracy potential. Also my test target with this rifle was one of the better one's I've seen (I checked 5 others that came in and this one was the best of the bunch) Here's a picture of my rig.

Also on a side note guys, how about posting the ammo that you used as well. I see a lot of good accuracy claims yet the person posting often doesn't state what ammo they used. To those that have posted the ammo you're using. Thanks. :)
