I recall an old thread discussing the ideal optic for the Swiss Arms but could not find it here.

What do you have on your Swiss rifle and what rifle model do you have and do you recommend it?

CQB:
Carbine:
Full Size ### Special:

What rail do you have as I see there are several makes now?

Thanks!

Swiss Arms CQB - I have an Aimpoint Micro with B+T rail
Swiss Arms Classic Green - Trijicon ACOG 4x TIA3F with Kyle rail

I recommend both!

Next gun I get will get an Eotech, always wanted to try one.

14.3 " Carbine...aimpoint m4 with spacer removed...sitting on a rail of course.

17" flattop carbine....Larue 1.93 spr mount, leupold 1.5-5X SPR reticle scope. This requires cheek piece for proper weld. I'll likely replace this with an IOR 1/4X pitbull scope at some point.

Hi,

I was looking at that too. Where can you get a good deal on a Micro and ACOG? The ACOG seems to be quite pricey for my needs... how far do you shoot with this sight?

I read that the Eotech is not well suited to the Swiss rifle... slicing the hand on the rail or something...

Thanks!!

Yeah - I will put the Eotech on an AR or something else, maybe a VZ?

I found the Micro locally at Daves Surplus - but you can find them at The Shooting Edge - a bit cheaper.

The ACOG I bought used on the EE here. I shoot up to 100 yards, and have shot up to 300 m. With the Classic Green you can go up to 800 m I think with my ACOG. That would be a tough shot I think for me at this point :)

ive got an eotech on my black special, it bites me every now and then, but ive learned not to let it anymore than i can...

i really like the set up, mounted on a BT

robbs has the best optic you can put on these, the s&b short dot. gives you both cqb capability and magnification when needed. I use a Night force 1-4x24 on a carbine. I prefer it to the aimpoint comp M4 I have on the CQB

What do you use to mount the Schmidt & Bender short dot? Are you starting from a Kyle or B&T rail, and then there is some type of mount that fits onto that or what?

I had mine set up like this with a Kyle rail and an 3x ACOG compact with the red cross hairs (with the mount on backwards to get the proper eye relief), it shot quite well, especially if you sight it in for 100 yards (or whatever) and then keep shooting at 100 yards. But ultimately I felt it was too high so I moved the ACOG Compact (which I really like a lot) to a M4-type AR, which I felt it was better suited to. On the AR, point of impact on the ACOG compact seems to be pretty similar from 25 yards out to 230 yards (as far as I can shoot at my normal restricted range), whereas, on the Swiss set up, point of impact was quite a bit different at different distances - requiring me to aim low to hit things, etc. I'm guessing that this is because of the height of the optic. In any event I went back to the drawing board (irons) on the Swiss and the ACOG is now paired up with the AR. It would be great if there was a set-up (rail-mount-scope) specifically made for the Swiss. I would take a serious look at buying something like that if it existed. It seems that most of what is on the market in North America is made for ARs (to state the obvious). I was wondering in the other thread what the Swiss Army uses, but I didn't get an answer. The ACOG-type set up with the cheek riser from their webpage (seen below), I'm not sure that set up addresses my own concerns - or if it is even possible to address my concerns if you take as a given that the barrel sits very low in the reciever and the optic has to be above the rear diopter drum (unless you are going for some kind of co-witness to get the height down). Optics are tricky with Swiss Arms. They seem to be meant to be shot with the irons, and if you want a scope you get the flat-top model.

ghostie, here is what I am using for the nightforce. needed the height to clear the rear optic, sighted it in a 100M instead 25 M, so its not way out of whack when shooting out to 200M. It would be nicer to get it lower but can't without beating the rear buid off with a hammer.

Your set-up looks really good. That seems to be about as low as you can get. I, like most people, am not prepared to mangle - or risk manging - the rear sight on my Swiss rifle to mount an optic. So I would say that yours looks about as good as it will get.

Anyone have any pics of a Schmidt & Bender set-up, other Nightforce, or what about things like Leupold CQT?

after owning alot of different optics, my choices would be:

CQB - Nightforce 1-4x24
Full size - Nightforce 2.5-10x24

You will be able to mount both quite low and the extra magnification will be handy on the full size without being to heavy or bulky (I ran stuff like Leupold 4.4-14-40 on a Black Special Target and it was just a bit too cumbersome). You really want the extra power when shooting gophers at 200m+ but the low end of the magification is nice to close range shooting.

For the CQB, again, having 1x magifncation is great for close quarters while having the option of 4x magnfication makes longer range shooting a bit easier on the eyes.

The illuminated reticle on both is a must (I tried a 1.5-5x20 Leupold on a shorty AR but the lack of the illuminated reticle made me toss it).

That all said, I have not tried the S&B Short Dot....

The diopter unit comes out of the rear assembly in about 5 mins, and it'll allow you to drop on a lower scope. The mag ring on most 30mm scopes will fit within the rear assembly nicely with Med rings.

I had my Falcon on mine with that setup, but I like the irons on this rifle and was always putting it back on/off. I'm now using X-high rings to clear. Not as nice a profile, but off the bench or bipod it's ok.

I've got a TA01 ACOG but it doesn't feel right on this gun for me. My Aimpoint Comp1 has a real nice picture, but the dot is too big. I've also put one of my Micro T1's on it and it's nice, but 'd like to find a lower rail to get a cowitness on.

It's always back to the irons for me. They're very instinctive and I shoot well with them.

If I was using this rifle for urban combat the best (one and only ) sight would be the new SpecterDR 1.5/6x dual role sight by ELCAN. If my life did NOT depend on it, any other sight would be acceptable. I must advise however that I work for ELCAN and have significant personal experience with this sight. It provides a 1x CQB ( both eyes open) capability with a 16 degree wide field of view . It then switches instantly and precisely to 6 degrees at 6X with the flick of a lever; no change in eye relief, exit pupil or cheekweld. The optics are crisp and unsurpassed in resolution or brightness. The ACOG is not as bright or as fast for target acquistion. This sight will soon be available to commerical customers in 2010. Price TBD. It will do everything an Aimpoint AND Trijicon ACOG will do, all in one sight. Anyone that buys the best AR rifle like Swiss arms will appreciate owning the best sight for it.

I'll be the judge of that... I demand that you send me one to sample. haha.

Love to run a SpecterDR but I have too much money tied up in TAO1's and micro T1's. You get Elcan to send me a Specter and I'll post a video of me shooting a TAO1 and a T1 with it...

I can't say what works well, so I'll tell you what didn't work for me.

I had 2 different ACOG TA31F's on both my CQB an Carbine but found the lack of eye relief to make anything but bench shooting (!) uncomfortable.

Your mileage may vary... I love the factory irons but am considering an Aimpoint for the future.

Cheers
