Swiss Arms rifles being examined for reclassification?

On topic: I've been on the phone with the RCMP this morning, and am currently submitting media requests to get someone to talk on the record. Hopefully that won't mean filing a FOI request.

Please be patient. C77 is right: This is important. We need a wider picture of what's going on.

Thank you C77 for trying to keep this rational.

While we need not panic, that does not stop us from contacting and putting pressure on politicians.
Give yourself a goal, maybe one letter a day.

Arm yourself with some talking points.
RCMP forensic lab- no oversight
RCMP forensic lab-no appeal
RCMP forensic lab-incompetence
RCMP forensic lab-political vengeance against the removal of the LGR
RCMP forensic lab-waste of money and effort on firearms already assessed
RCMP forensic lab-no guarantee of financial restitution
RCMP forensic lab-usurption of right of parliament to make law

There is so much more, but let us make them answer, otherwise it is one firearm at a time until there are none left.

Just spit balling here:

Has anyone mentioned that if the LOWER is deemed to be C/A, and since the UPPER is the Serialized firearm, couldn't you just turn in the lower and put an NEA lower on it? Or did I miss that discussion?

 ... Really? ;)

As I understand it, the Swiss Arms investigation (review) has actually been ongoing for 18 months now. I'm just curious why we didn't hear about any of this a year and a half ago. I'm also wondering at one point it becomes less ethical to continue to sell these (is that when it becomes public knowledge?)

Interesting statement Blaxsun. It’s obvious that ATRS is an ethical transparent business. I’d like to thank ATRS for trying to make this public knowledge and save their customers future grief. I am curious if any other businesses’ had prior knowledge or would disclose this type of information to an unsuspecting buyer.
Now as C77 said, we need a solution.
On a side note, there seem to be a lot of Swiss guns for sale on the EE now….

Not 100% clear that is the only issue yet.

While I'm waiting for the go-ahead from media guys, the only official statement I've had from Specialized Firearms Support Services is:

“The investigation is currently speculative. There's nothing officially out there yet.”

I'm not trying to insinuate anything, although I am curious why if this started 18 months ago we're only hearing about it now...

Whoa! They've got a tough job, and they're just trying to do it, stoically and heroically, because nobody else has the integrity and perserverance. You are unfair, unethical, unfit for freedom, and unCanadian for even thinking such things!

hope you guys can get to the bottom of it, and it all gets sorted out quickly and favourably for our shooting brethren.

Wow.... Judging from the 5 people so willing to part with the NR Swiss Arms in the EE.... People are really willing to jump ship (and try to screw someone else!)

So much for courage of conviction!

I'm curious as to what the RCMP found with the two samples to say they're CAs but the one rifle at the root of the inquiry was okay.

It all started in earnest early 2009 after C391 was tabled. They are just moving ahead one gun at a time.

So are you able to tell us if they are "trying" to make these firearms prohibited, or if they are wanting to verify that they do indeed fit the requirements of a non restricted firearm?

They (RCMP) expressed to me very clearly that they want to give SAN every opportunity to verify lineage as they do not want to change the status.

JR, as far as you know is this likely for SAN to easily accomplish to RCMP's satisfaction and consistent with information originally used to obtain NR status all those years ago? SAN must have this information ready to go considering a large market of theirs is on the verge of vaporizing somewhat?

Thank-you for your comments and staying in touch with the forum.

It almost seems to me by reading the different thread and what some have posted that the RCMP believe there to be TWO different models of the Sig/SAN Special whatever imported -- one that is a CA, and true semi auto that is like the earlier one that they inspected.

Maybe I am misunderstanding things, but that is what I am seeing.

I guess a question to ask is - JamesB and JR (and any other shop - but mainly James and JR as they where in at the get go and know more on this model than anyone else IMHO), are your guns still identical to the original?

Kevin, that is a question for SAN, not JB or myself.
