Recently my swiss has started throwing brass all over the place. Some forward, some back, some near, some far. In the past it has always been so consistant. Any ideas as to what could be causing this all of a sudden?

did you change ammo? bad batch of ammo? gas ports clean? obviously something has changed, something related to pressure. I would look into it further.

I have no idea on the round count. I will have a look at the extractor tomorrow when I strip it to clean. The gas system is spotless and the ammo is good (maybe a little on the hot side but not overly).

maybe post a picture of the extractor, some eagle eyes might be able to pick something up, also might want to inspect the markings on the brass, check for consistency

@USP: can't tell. On my 552 the extractor was gone after about 5000 rds (but it wasn't new when I bought it).

I used steel cased Barnaul ammo back then, which probably put a little too much stress on the extractor. Never had a problem with my issued SIG 550 with which I have fored more rounds.

Check the cases for dings. Are they bouncing in a way that they never used to, or do they still have the same "D" dent?

Dissassemble and clean the bolt and action. If the problem persists, check the extractor as above. Is this a several thousand round gun, or a couple hundred round gun?

Farlsincharge, can you use a needle( fine sewing ) to clear it out followed by several blasts of air? disassembly is ideal if you can do it.
