Swiss k 31 Accuracy

Right side to avoid the top ejection from slamming brass against the scope too much.
Tradeex is selling the Swiss Products scope mounts.

Medium height 3/8" dovetail rings will let a 40mm scope objective clear the rear sights.

Thats great! which one do you have? how was installing it? how about accuracy, did you notice a worthy improvement over the stock sights? Im pulling the trigger on a set very soon!
(I was going to order a set this week, but rather I ordered another K31 instead....f:P:2:)

Well worth it.

Well, after years of interest and intrigue I finally placed an order for a K31 at TradeEx.
I remember doing a Vintage Match many years ago at Connaught thinking I was doing well with my Swede mauser only to find the winners to be K31's for iron sight class. I really thought these Swiss rifles were odd looking with the cocking ring, but scores were well above the rest of us. Now with this latest influx of reasonable priced K31's I'm jumping in.

I still have a Swede left that I rebarreled and reworked a few times now in 7.62x39 for fun, but I got to see one of these K31's up close!
It looks like there is a quite a following with these rifles and Swiss Matches.

I do have some questions about reloading and this clamp on mount. How solid is the mount and will Win .284 brass easily neck up and just fireform? Considering this action is similar to a turning bolt action will neck size only work or must full length resize each time?

I await my K31. :)

I have the mount diopter shows in his post. I was also skeptical about the clamping method, but it has not given trouble in somewhat over 100 rounds so far at the range. I have not carried the rifle in the field with it yet to know how that works out.

No need to mess with finding and tweaking .284 brass, Trade Ex has new PRVI brass for sale, as do other site sponsors and the PRVI brass is much higher quality than the Winchester stuff.

I have been neck sizing so far with no issues, but I am only on my third firing of the first batch of brass. Note that the K31 has an extremely short throat and needs bullets seated very deep.

Looks like the PRVI brass is the way. Will grab some of that with the rifle and a set of dies. I've read that most reloaders F/L size every time for the K31 and I'll test it myself.

I won't need a full target diopter set of irons at this time, but am interested in an adjustable windage/elevation rear sight. Anything available out there as a bolt-on?

Action works in much the same way as a Semi-auto. If brass is too over-sized it will not be able to lock up and you will get light primer hits. Remember to anneal the cases after a few firings.

I suggest getting the scope mount first, learn how to tune up the rifles to get the most it is capable of, up to 10x, then get the diopter sights to really push yourself and get you tuned into the rifle.

Most O.A.L. information for the 7.5x55 is for the longer throat predecessors of the K31 such as the 96/11, 1911 and K11. It will be to long for the K31 throat.

No advantage to the more expensive Swiss Products Steel mount. They only made it to satisfy doubters. They themselves use the Alum mounts on their own K31s. The Anodizing actually make the Aluminum surface harder than the steel, and more wear resistant than the black coating on the steel. That is what Tradeex is selling too.

I'm usually there at the Victoria Day Matches. I might have talked to you in the past. Still shooting F-Class, but was absent for a decade until last spring. Do you guys shoot off rests or elbows?

Quite a few K31 and other Swiss shooters here in yUK as well - I have three, and there are eight or ten more in my club.

A recent price hike of 25%, followed by another one when GST went up and THEN by a total famine of GP11 means that we are ALL reloading.

I have both scope and diopter sights - interchangeable [and yes, they really ARE RTZ fits].

I bought my 00/11 and K31 a long time ago, and wouldn't part from them for ten times what they cost me back then.

I have to admit I missed out on the K31's. They were hard to find years back and pricey.

I don't know of a single milsurp rifle that lends itself to high accuracy and quality, nice trigger, simple target sight screw on, no alteration scope mount that sits low on the receiver and a stock that will give a decent cheek weld.

Most milsurps require you to add a cheek piece or go the "chin weld" route which I cannot stand or you need to buy their target/sniper version for any real accuracy. One more bonus for the Swiss rifles is the care these rifles are given. For roughly $300 delivered to the door in 2011 with cleaning kit, sling and muzzle cap, that is a bargain indeed!

As my buddy tacfoly said, they do "Return To Zero", on the same rifle.

Don't expect to sight in the scope or diopter on one k31 and expect them to be zeroed in on another K31. You might get lucky, but I've tested as much as 24" difference in Point Of Impact by moving the scope mount/scope assembly or diopters from one K31 to another at 100m/yds.

Ah, Carlos, my old floon - this is where living here has its advantages! Having only ONE K31 as I do, mine ALWAYS RTZ no matter if I use the scope or the diopter mount. I take care to push the mount as far forward as it will go every time before tightening up the securing screw.

Never fails, that.

Best

'spose so....

Plus part - We live near the Queen.

Minus part - But only at Christmas.

That's about it really. We've never had an invite to go back for a nice cup of tea after the carol service in the local church. Way too much of a redneck, me.

I 'spose I should mention that terminal 3 and the Air Canada desk is only a couple of hours away, too. Thankfully.
