Picked up a swiss k31 in 308.It has a odd serial # and no swiss cross stamp on butt.Anybody seen one like it before? It is in pristine/as new condition.

Commercially made by Hämmerli for target shooters, mostly for international Palma match shooters that required 155gr .308 ammo to be used

Serial #'s match on bolt receiver and mag.I seen 308 conversions of regular production K31's but never one like this .It looks unfired. The bolt face is perfect.
Any idea what year they were made? How many?etc. Was it a special production run?

Hämmerli was one of the part manufactures for the K31 and had the tooling already While the K31 was in service they made some of the Private series that still used the 6 digit serial numbers you see in the date charts. After it left service use there was no need to follow that number sequence so they started a four digit sequence for their private series manufacture. Late fifties until their buy out by Carl Walther Sportwffen.

Not a problem. That little black oval sticker is the registration number from the the expired Federal long gun registry. Same sticker was used for any gun that did not have an actual serial number. I have a few 22 target rifles with those stickers.

Nice rifle. Was military, due to the Swiss Crest on receiver, but serial number likely scrubbed off by the Wälti Waffen of Langau CH gunsmith(s) for commercial sale. Privatized .308
I like to see it in person one day.
I'm in Ville St-Laurent.

Wondering if a Quebec resident is going to be illegal to borrow and keep a bunch of rifles unregistered at home for a period of time from friends in other provinces?

It looks to be assembled before the serial numbers ever being stamped. Looks all original and no any dubious/extra marks。
