It was a good thing these rifles were never made in big numbers. The scope is a joke.

Yup, it's like looking through a mouse's ear with a teeny bit of magnification. They made a better job of it with the ZfK55, but not by much.

The ZfK31/42 and 43 scopes are bad, very bad. But the Zfk-55 is pretty decent. 4X style scopes tended to be the norm for a long time on what was essentially a DMR rifle. My only gripe with the Kern 3.5 is that the reticle lines are thick.

I have a 1.5 - 4 Hensoldt on my K31 - occasionally - and also an old El Paso-made Weaver K4, one of six I picked up for a song in a jun- antique store in Oregon. If I'm honest, the Hensoldt just has the edge on the FOV, but otherwise those old Weavers get the tick in the box for me. All six for a hundred bucks - and the lends cover for the Hensoldt was US$145...
