Just read on another forum that "due to still great demand RUAG Ammotec will continue GP 11 production for the sports shooter market at a rate of 20 million rounds per year."

This should keep the interest high for K31 rifles since ammo should be available for years to come.

One poster had this bit of info -

"the Swiss still have ~170 million GP11 in stock, in 1997 they had 970 million. That said some of the stocks are supposed to be time expired, which I suspect (but do not know) that means pre 1987. Time expired ammunition will not be issued, so it is likely to be sold.

So there will likely be surplus GP11 on the market for some time to come, though I suspect the price will be what the market will bear."

PPU is good stuff, but not cheap like bulk ammo. I may just be tempted to add a K31 to my stable after all. Boy I wish I didn't pass on a MINT metal example at the Mississauga Le Baron 3 years ago! The stock was a bit "beat up" and I waited for a better example. Dumb.

Posted a thread about this a few months back:
http://www.canadiangunnutz.com/forum/showthread.php/1439492-GP-11-is-back-in-production-fellas!

Glad to see it back in production!

RUAG just stopped its production of .30 Luger apparently which is a great disappointment to myself, as it's my favourite pistol cartridge.

New GP11 production will not be surplused for at least 30 years. Exchanges rates are horrible for Canadian dollar for the foreseeable future.
My Swiss club got 1978 lot back in 1991. 1978 GP11 wasn't available as surpluse until around 2005±.

.30 Luger was still available for the target shooters community until a couple years ago.

The army had to pay for it so target shooters could order it through the army, even though it was replaced in military service in 1949.

About damn time they got rid of that.
