Hi all,

I am posting this as I am looking at buying a Swiss Luger. I have been interested for a long time, but have never actually gotten to a point where I had the funds to acquire one until recently. Right now the only type really available in Canada is the M1906/29 Lugers. They are interesting but I am more interested in the M1900 or M1906 Swiss Lugers with the Starburst Swiss Cross (I also prefer the strawing and high end bluing to the more utilitarian finishes on the M1906/29s).

Basically at the moment I have tracked down a M1906 with the Starburst Swiss Cross for sale in the States that I would be interested in (comes with a holster and two mags, all matching with 89% bluing and 90% strawing), however by time all the importing and such is done it would cost about 4k. To get a M1906/29 in Canada it would cost about 3k after everything is said and done, and it would be much quicker.

Since these don't come up for sale very often, how much is a Swiss M1906 with the Starburst Cross worth in Canada at the moment? Would it be worth the 4k once it is imported?

The other side of it is I don't even know if I will enjoy the pistol. I have never used a Luger in my life and to just go and spend 4k on one is a bit of a leap. If anyone has one in my area (be it German or whatever variant it is), and is willing to let me handle it, I am more than willing to pay for a nice dinner.

Any advice is appreciated.

I bought a German WW2 luger a couple of years ago. I'm glad I have it in my collection, however I don't really like shooting the gun. The magazines are annoying to load, the sights aren't amazing, and the shooting experience is meh. I'm glad I got a relatively cheaper one now. I'm more of a reference collector anyways so I'm happy to have it fill out my collection. I probably won't be buying another one for shooting though.

Just my 2 cents

Remember that the swiss lugers are in 7.65mm.
Many say it is more accurate than the 9mm chambering
Calgary shooting center list a 1900 and a 1906 for sale.
Do a search for "Luger".
The 1900 is $5500.00
The 1906 is $3550.00

I don't expect to shoot it much, to be honest I rarely shoot pistols as it is (last time I shot one was May). I expect I might put maybe a box or two though it every year (so far this year I have shot maybe 300rds though about 4 handguns most of that being introducing other people to handguns). I already looked into ammo, and I know Tradeex has some (if I decide on a M1906/29 I would likely go with them anyways).

My price range is maxed out at about 4k so that is also a limiting factor, as much as I would love a M1900, they are just out of my price range at the moment.

I did take a look at the Calgary Shooting Center, the model 1906/24 from what I have seen online seems to be crestless, and part of what draws me to these pistols is the beautiful crests on them.
