Now where is my non-Halal piggy bank?

It is functionally identical with any other Improved Maxim design, including the famed German 1908 and the Russian 1910, differing only in minor detail and in the quite incredible quality of manufacture.

The original came out in 1884, was Improved by Maxim himself, served as the prototype for the Vickers.

It was the first industrial product in the world to be built in MODULES.

If a major component fails, the entire gun can be stripped in 40 seconds, rebuilt from the spares kit in 40 more, back in action in 90 seconds. I have stripped and reassmbled a Maxim myself in less time than that.

It is big and bulky, heavy and cumbersome..... but do you know of any other machine-gun which you can fire by the HOUR?

For fixed emplacements, it is STILL the best gun ever designed, even though a proper b*tch to manufacture.

We scrapped all of ours about 50 years ago.

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL.

Thanks for this one, Diopter!

That is a thing of beauty, and the machine work to build it all before CAD and CAM. Looks like that MG would be going strong a couple hundred more years from now compared to a computer/phone, device or car which is toast after a couple years. It never ceases to amaze me the guns that surface over time.

Let us pray that they did not scrap any of them. With that sight it was probably intended for field or fortress deployment as the sight would be long enough to extend through an armoured mantlet or firing port.

Just noticed the field-use prismatic sight on the ground under the barrel. I've seen those for sale separately a few times, which I suppose does not bode well for the survival of the guns!

Some Scans from an out of print Swiss coffee table arms book from a series of such books from this publisher and these fine authors.
Something for smellie to drool over with the lemon pie.
