It is #2 shot because that is what the Swiss military specified. This is a one off lot, and we will probably not be able to get more of the same or other options of the same later.
 
Picked up my two cases yesterday, hopefully I will be able to give it a go this weekend. Seems like top quality stuff to me, really well packaged in a nice ammo can. Doesn't even seem to be that old. Wonder why they surplussed it.

I guess we'll see, but why are you here to bash a product you've never even used? I mean you said in your post your experience was with handgun ammo. We are talking about shotgun ammo here, so why the hate on?
 
Picked up a case on friday.

Hope to use some on a badger or gophers next time i have my 870 along in the truck :)

Anybody pattern these yet? Any idea if they can be reloaded?
 
Still wondering, is this #2 buckshot, or #2 birdshot?

I'm thinking it must be #2 buckshot, because wtf would the military want birdshot for...
 
#2 Bird shot, used for varmint control I think.

Tried a few rds yesterday. Functioned well in the Fabarm. I didn't pattern it, but it seems like it should do the trick for some close up work with gophers :D
 
I patterned the ammo with our range gun ( Fabarm Martial 14" barrel)

80 pellet load. Recoil is manageable, much like a heavy hunting load, less than a 00 buck load.

Just in case anyone is still wondering it is without a doubt #2 birdshot, i dissected one to confirm, its a heavy star crimp with a deep shot cup and 3/16" cork wad over some funky lookin powder.... can post a pic if anyone wants too see...

This stuff rock's you pretty good but its not even close to a magnum slug in felt recoil... the squirrel population around the hunting camp is a bit thinner now and after a tear down of the Valtro i can tell you it shoots at least as clean as #4 winchester white box.

i dont reload shot shell's but i'm going to hang onto these hull's until i can get a opinion if they are worth reloading... they seem to have more brass in them then winchester slug hull's do with a nicer rounded lip and just a better feeling to them....

#2 is very useful in varmint and predator control as well as chicken hunting in thick brush... unlike #4 the #2 seems to rip thru any vegetation between you and your target, for a split second its like the forest just gets the h e doublehockeysticks out of the way :)


i give it a 8 out of 10 for all around value and quality... you probably would pay $20 alone for a mint ammo can these days so the price is not really that bad when you factor in everything, i will probably even get another can next time i am in calgary if there is any left.
