Swiss Muzzle loader

I am not sure but I may have passed it up about 20 years ago because I was broke. It was part of an estate and the others viewing it either did not recognize it or were more interested in more modern guns luckily. I am not sure lucky is completely correct; I was lucky to find this one at this time but mostly it is a question of watching for a long time. :>) :>)

I finally got around to casting some mini balls for the swiss sniping rifle and took the gun back to the range this morning; I think I have found an accurate load for the gun. My first try a week or so ago, I used patched round ball because that was what I had been told was used in the gun. With 70 gr of 3F powder they did not group all that well. At 50 yards about 3" group and 5" left of center. This time I tried a sort of wad cutter style mini ball with straight sides and many shallow grooves and a short traditional style mini ball with 2 deep grooves. At 25 yards they both shot about the same but at 50 yards the wadcutter style were 5" left while the pointed conventional minis were all in the target. Lateral variation was perhaps 1" and vertical was about 3 to 4" and at least in part attributable to my being unable to see the sights very well. I think if I replace the front sight with a wider square topped one, my groups will improve.
With the sights set for 300 schritte or about 200 yards, I fired 3 shots which were all within a couple of inches of 8 x 12" rock laterally and vertically spread about 1 foot. I think a bit more fiddling and the vertical error may come down quite a bit.
