thinking on getting a swiss veterelli 41 cal rifle ..............i would need to get it converted to centre fire, ANYONE KNOW a good source to get such work done ?
any ideas / info most welcomed.
along with that,
any source for brass or anyone make the centre fire brass ?

Quite a few have done it. I'll let other people give their advice about the conversion first. I just used a drill press and with the Swiss products Teflon pin holder and RCBS firing pins modified to square out the head radius.

Brass, convert 8x50R Lebel, fireformed with cream of wheat. trimmed to longer than 38mm allows use of lighter/shorter bullets that can still be fed from the tube. Used 320 gr cast 44cal(.430") from a friend.

rcbs makes a forming die.you use 348 brass that is available from tradex.fairly expensive but would last forever with mild loads.i have the dies already, just looking for a reasonably prices rifle now.

hello kward if you put out a wanted ad in the antique or military section you will find a few! i just finalized a deal on 1 for 350$ but the next day got 2 offers on 2 seperate rifles at 325$ each...........my loss and the rifles are out there !

I currently have three of mine converted. A fairly easy thing to do. I can have a couple of others firing if I change bolt handles as head is controlled by the lugs on the handle. I load mine with 55 grs of 3 Fg and a 300 gr cast 0.430 bullet.

Did you slug the bore before you started loading? Just curious as I've heard that some are closer to .417-.425ish in the grooves and using a .430 will cause a lot of leading

I have 10 Vetterli's and I have never had one go below 0.429. Any I have slugged have been 0.429 to 0.431. Swiss where pretty constant on their bore diameters considering 20 years of production and at least 5 factories. Some parts will not enterchange amongst different factorizes also some differences in parts due to models being updated.

Maybe the .417 was already leaded or bore and grove dimensions were mixed up by someone. I had also had great results with .430 bullets.

The original bullet weighed 340 grs. I use my 44 rem mag bullets, 250gr and 300gr.
