Recently purchased a Tikka Varmint so that I could play the long bomb game. I like the gun and it seems to have potential for shooting great...BUT. I just can't see getting rid of my 12 twist Remmy 700. It is an older one that shoots great.

WIth wife back in school, the budget is good for one varmint gun. Someone suggested getting a barrel and making it a switch barrel remington. Use the 12 twist for coyotes in the winter then switch up with a fast twist for targets in the summer.

Anyone care to comment on what the cost would be, things required (like barrel vise etc...)?

cheers

Paul

do you have both guns now? by the time u sell one, get a barrel have it fitted, get a barrel vice / action wrench to swap them around, your not goin to be any further ahead.. why not keep both guns and just switch optics between the 2?

I have various different barrels in different lengths, different twists and different calibers that I switch between. It's well worth it, especially if the rifle is sporting a lot of high end parts and a high-end optic.

You can get the action wrench and vice for $100 on ebay. Making it a switch barrel only involves pinning the lug. Switching a barrel takes 5 min.

Check out Mark B switch barrel on Mystic Precisions website. That might be an option for you to consider. I'd get in touch with Jerry he's knows his stuff.
