Switching barrel on norinco m4

Assuming you have the correct tools, the swap should be easy - but there have been very reliable reports that the Norc barrel nut is put on by a 2000 lb gorrilla with a 20 ton torque wrench. This will require you to cut the barrel nut and split it to get it off, then it's just reassembly as normal, with a new nut. You should have the headspace checked, but there's a high probability that it will be fine.

with mine the BBL nut was not too hard to get off. I double wrenched it, and she came off no prob. NOW the FSB, well that is another story altogether....
Those pins will not come out. I cut the FSB off.
Lesson i learned is, but a new upper, and BBL, save the trouble.

I would invest in a barrel vice.

The Norc M4 is a great deal as is, start "tuning" it and you take away from the bang for buck value of it IMHO. If you are successful in changing the barrel I doubt you will stop there. By the end of it all you will have spent more money on add ons then the rifle is worth and wished you had started on a more standard/Mil spec firearm.

But do whatever makes you happy. :)
