Have anyone one of you guys ever use one of these things before? Which one and how did you like it?

I have a Vortex HST and when I was out the other day it being kind of cold out. I found trying change the magnification was almost impossible with my gloves on. So I was thinking of picking something up to make it easier to change the mag.

Vortex makes some, but they are like 90 bucks. MGM Switchview in the states make a universal plastic one that looks like it could work. I also found something even cheaper (just to try out) something called Breakaway Coaster clips that some people are using that seem to work good.

Your thoughts?

I use the rod holder things sold on e-bay for 5$.

Sure, it's mounted to a 2300$ scope, but for 5$ it was the best money I spent on gun gear. I don't care about looks, I care about function. I'm not trying to impress people.
 
I bought the metal switchview direct from MGM for my Trijicon 1-4. Fit perfect with the notch that is on the power selector. Fit and finish is great. Very secure. Still came out to be like 75 bucks delivered. For me it was worth it. Use it for 3 gun. I like having the switch view, makes sense for a hunting scope too. Was thinking about one for my new Nightforce SHV if they have one.

I was looking for one of thoise around town today, but couldnt find any.

I hear yeah about the I dont care what it looks like kind of thing, because I have a hose clamp wrapped in black hockey tape waiting to go on if I just happen to go out before I find something. :)

Im kind of torn about just keeping it cheap or putting out a few bucks for a nice one.
 
Got one mounted on my Leupold Mark 4 2.5-8. Fit and finish is great and it makes adjustment a lot easier, especially when its cold. Its very well made, however, it is a $60 piece of aluminum.
 
I have the switchview eagle eye that I ordered directly from MGM when they first brought it out earlier this year. Inexpensive, simple to install and works very well. It's a plastic version yet I have found it to be very well made and durable. I only bench shoot with the scope it's mounted on (Vortex Diamondback) so can't speak on its robustness in a more demanding environment (i.e. hunting) but find it perfect for my needs.
 
The original B&L Balvars with the built in W&E adjustment were designed to use the entire ocular assembly to change power. This made it easy to grab (even with gloves on) and get a good grip to change power - you also got a little mechanical advantage. The requirement with a second focal plane reticule is to have minimum tolerances if you want to minimize the reticule shift (and resultant POI shift) as you change power. These tight tolerances are often effected by temperature as metal expands/contracts and any lubricant that is effected by temp. (most) which makes it harder to employ a thin power ring. A man named Askins designed those Balvars and they were very good - a little heavy though.

Seems to be more of a Aussie / Euro thing. Doubt you'll find one here.

Save the gas money from driving around and buy them off E-bay. Came in like 5-7 days and I believe they were cheap. Like 5$ each.

Functionality - 10/10
Appearance - 5/10 (I like finely machined pieces, but I like them because I appreciate the skill and work that went into them. These levers look pretty good but are a bit big, which makes them awesome for cold hands or gloves)

The only throw lever scope I have is the Specter DR .
Excellent if the magnification fits requirements.
IMHO a very good investment for my purposes
