SX3 blew up

Yup, I think he paid over 1600 with tax and everything this spring. He's trying to get an explanation what has failed and why it is his fault first before he takes the money.

Ya thats a good idea on his part because that isnt right. I think he should get a full refund cause those guns arent cheap, well any gun of that quality isnt cheap. And you would think for the amount he paid for the gun they would at least give him a new one or the entire amount he paid for.
Just my cents about it :p

this is very weird i find how the shell would make it down the barrel. i could see if it was a 20 gauge shell in a 12 gauge gun, but like he said it was not, my only guess is that part of the brass on the hull broke off when being chambered into the gun, the shell went off and the ejectors had nothing to grab on to , when the next shell was loaded, the hull slid down the barrel a bit, but then the hull hit the forcing cones and didnt go all the way down. that would also explain why the third round didnt go off when it was supposed to. the action could no fully shut. id say it was a mix of crap ammo and gun malfunction. i dont know about you guys but i hate black cloud. they release it and it patterns like garbage so they make special chokes so you can use it. in the end you spend more on ammo and need special chokes so it patterns well, seems like a big waste to me. i have seen to many weird problems with black cloud. i stick to my kent 3'' and remington nitro 3.5'' no problems at all just alot of dead duck and geese.

Couple things thank you Browninggold I was begining to wonder if I may have a problem and p%" on mythbusters because I have blown up an 870 barrel and still have it at home .pm if anyone wants to see it.I have also had a shell go off in the magazine of a model 37 ithaca, luckily it was not under pressure so only the primer went off. This one is puzzling but it does sound like the third round went off before the second cleared the barrel. Will be interesting to see what Winchester has to say..oh the .870 was dropped in the mud just like they had it but was not a remchoke barrel.

How did the shell go off in the mag tube in the Ithaca?

Ithaca

This is speculation but my partner was sitting beside me ,it was the second shot and as the slide comes back the empty ejects downward and the last 1 1/2"- 2" causes the new shell to exit the magazine were it is lifted by the arms and forward motion to the reciever and push fed into the barrel. What I believe occured the shell did not fully release from the mag.at first, slide action moved forward , lifting arms hit the brass and were forced along the back of the shell untill they hit the primer. The shell had severe marks across the Brass .This is what I surmrise as one of the lifting tongs was bent, so ends the detective story.:cool:

boys, i'm new here and i own a sx3 3.5. i am shoked to here this since i have fired more than a thousand rounds threw mine in the last year and a half with no fouls or even a jamb up, maybe 3 good cleanings in that time....i just don't get it...are you sure the barrel wasn't blocked by something else like snow or mud ???? it would be very difficult to load 2 shells, i cant see it even closing....hmmm

$900.00 would only be acceptable if it can be proven or explained in detail why it was his fault.

Do not cash/accept the cheque! Tell them if they do not give him a new gun (or the $$ he actually paid), you will post your stuff on youtube and gun forums giving them their money's worth and more in bad publicity.

Absolutely and by offering some compensation Winchester is acknowledging that the fault was at least partially their's.

They should replace the gun.

bad press...

Do you really think they are going to care if you bad mouth them ??
I mean you are threatening blackmail at that point.
Either try for a new gun or take the money and run.
Then show the world the superior quality of the SX3.
Just my .02

Do not forget to ask him to send for the gun back, as the barrel is worth $500 if it was not damaged in the blast.

And the gun is still registered to him, so he better get it back.

Why was he shooting cripples? That's not nice.
Let me guess. You've not done much waterfowling.

The guy whose gun blew up is a guide. When birds fall but are not dead shooting cripples is what ethical hunters and guides do. The alternative is to let the birds suffer needlessly.

Ok, finally getting sometime to do some hunting. It will be the first time we hunted together since I started this. I will get to talk to him (no through the phone and see what he say). Just hope this north wind would hold off for a few more hours.

The bolt carrier, the attenuated arm and hammer are all broken as well apparently. They are also offering a BPS or a maxius plus 500 bucks other than the 800. I think he's gonna get an used express to ride out the last few weeks of the season, then pick up a berretta for next year.

So is this Winchester offering him this money back plus Browning guns or is this his dealer offering him browning guns plus cash?

My guess is he was making a joke. People that cannot walk are referred to by some as cripple. Shooting them would not be nice.
