My gal shoots a 20g SX3, and last year we put thru 500 ish rounds at clays/birds. I did/do wipedowns after each use, and noticed it was getting pretty grungy under the hood. I popped the trigger mechanism out (watch out for the small spring!) and it was totally caked with old powder residue and such.
My question is, whats the best way to clean this? Would it be ok to soak in petrol and try and flush the crud off with compressed air? Ultrasonic cleaner? I am hoping to be able to clean without taking it apart any further -
Any tips greatly appreciated!

Do not disassemble the trigger group, instead soak the whole trigger group & the piston in mineral spirits (varsol). you may want to use a small brush to get into any tight areas.

Blow off with compressed air & lightly lube all moving parts with your choice of lube ( I like BreakFree).

The mag tube where the piston slides gets really dirty. I remove the bulk of the dirt with solvent & then clean again with ceramic range top cleaner. This stuff on a small piece of scotchbrite pad really gets it clean. A very light amount of lube on the tube will keep the carbon soft & easier to clean.

Clean the barrel, reassemble & a wipe down with a slightly oiled cloth & your done. :)

Pages 35 thru 39 in owners manual will show you how to disassemble the gun for cleaning inside the receiver .use a spray solvent like Remington brite bore and compressed air to clean the inside of the receiver .ultrasonic may remove more that just the fowling .ie the finish on the gun
