I found when shooting my 1200 with magnum loads (same basic speed pump design) it was best to keep some rearward pressure on the slide handle. That coupled with the speed pump design allowed for a quick, smooth rearward pump action with positive ejection. Interesting to note the rearward pressure is not required when using 2 3/4" loads. Seems to be a quirky design that works well when you are used to it.
