SxS .410 question

I recently saw a nice little SxS double .410 that might be for sale, but I didn't take note of the name/model . I think it was Brazilian or Spanish (the markings were in Spanish). It was not a "fine shotgun", but the bluing was nice and the wood was checkered. A simple plain sporter with internal hammers. Perfect condition.

Any guesses as to what make of gun I might have been holding? Ballpark value?

Probably a Brazilian Boito. It's a sweet little gun. I bought one (used) 3-4 years ago, a steal at $100.

I did a quick websearch and found an Ontario retailer selling Boito .410 SxS's for $419 (new?). This seems high to me.

Are you sure it wasn't a Baikal? I bought my wife one ot those. Single trigger nice wood very reliable.

If you're shopping for one, look at the CZ Bobwhite, as it features a scaled frame (proper size for the gauge). Many makers of economical doubles, like Baikal, use large 20 gauge frames for their .410's.

DaMoose was right, it is a Boito SxS .410 3-inch. Its probably at least 20 years old maybe more, but like I said, it looks like its never been carried.

I see that Ellwood Epps currently has a used Boito 12 ga. SxS described as "very good" going for $319.

What would be a reasonable offer for the .410?

As ashan said, it's not possible to give even a guesstimate on value. I've found that sxs's sometimes get a higher price for different gauges, other than a 12 ga. i.e. .410 and 28 ga.

Help me put the quality of Boitos in perspective. For example, I have owned, shot and been around a lot of those cheap C.I.L. / Compangnia Brazilia / Remington single shots. We've all seen them; same gun, different label.

How does the quality of Boito compare to the C.I.L. etc. shotguns?

Boito was the manufacturer of the CIL model 402 single shot shotgun. As far as the rest, they are all in about the same quality level.Great starter guns.

I have the single shot, #### hammer yourself Cooey .410 as well as the Boito SxS .410. The Boito is much nicer to shoot and finished better. The Cooey appears to be on a cut down 12 gauge barrel so the chamber section is very thick.
